It is a shame. Even if he was having a bad day, it kind of turned in to a playground. Sometimes people like to escalate and don’t know when to let up. It didn’t need to be a big thing but some people are licking their chops when the opportunity to mock things arises.

Wash is the only one that looked any good if we should be proud.
Detroit is bound for a top pick. NJD are bound for a top pick. And NYR might miss the playoffs. I’m happy to revisit later on. They aren’t playoff teams save for wash.

Came here for Yanet. Was about to leave disappointed. I cannot leave disappointed after a Flames win, so it is my turn to step up (no DMac TM material here though, as I’m not that sophisticated).
Yamler, please do come back - a Flames win without a proper Yanet just doesn’t feel the same.

Yeah, but we’re the Calgary Flames.
We usually lose to the non-playoff teams and play the playoff teams well, only to miss the playoffs (or a decent seed) by the difference of beating a few more dreck teams when we should’ve.
Now go get Eichel, and let’s do this.

Flames hot start (again) carries them to the win! The fact they haven't trailed since game 1 is surreal to me. The most un-Flames stat ever. A stat still intact after game 6. WTF is going on with this team??
This isn't from flukey comebacks or lucky bounces all game long. It's straight up hard work and everybody pitching in.
I literally lol'd when I saw Gudbranson to Lucic for the opening goal. Never in my life thought as a Flames' fan I'd be privy to that kind of goal from those 2. Also good to see Tkachuk pot one in front of his parents. Had a good chuckle at his 'dive'. Fans around the league are going to hate that one.
Manginer has got to easily be the biggest surprise this season outside of the team's record. The kid scored his first goal by hard work outmuscling the Devil's defense by himself. Unreal. He can deke, can make skilled plays, can shoot, can hit, can grind all game long. Dude is gonna get PAID and deserve every penny of it. Only a matter of time before fans around the league start noticing him, if they haven't already. Not to mention him and Lindholm both leading the league in goals and Gaudreau leading the league in assists. What a set of awesome and hilarious stats to see on the NHL.com website. Especially considering how most felt about this team before the season started. I went very quickly from disliking this roster to start, to cautiously loving it more each and every game. Only 6 games in though, so please Flames don't break my heart
Not sure what happened to Subban. He used to be so dynamic and skill. Made crazy plays each and every time he hit the ice. Now he's a shadow of his former self. Always enjoyed watching him play, but I guess those days are behind him.
And most of all, I don't even know where to begin with Darryl f'ing Sutter. I don't even know what team I am watching. All business and he gets #### done. In Sutter we Trust!

Gives me such mixed feelings. So happy that they look like they're on the right track now, but on the other hand they wasted like 5 seasons of this core and traded their highest ever draft pick for pennies on the dollar.

Sutter mentioned after the win vs NYR that the first couple things he noticed when he arrived to coach the team was their lack of fitness and the lack of quickness in their play. 100% correct. Not only do I NOT object to Sutter pointing out those deficiences from the coaches before him, I would not object if he displayed a PowerPoint with Gulutzan, Peters and Ward's mugs and shone a laser pointer over each of them and called them out by their first names and say how much they sucked at their job in Calgary.
Blows my mind that the team went from such a high fitness level and fast pace that Hartley had them playing, only to descend near the bottom of the league in those areas immediately after GG was hired. In what realm is that acceptable for an NHL team? What was upper managements thoughts on that? Surely they must have noticed. Disgraceful those are things that took so long to correct and that correcting them is paying dividends immediately.
Glad Sutter made mention of those factors, and glad he's worked immediately at rectifying them.

And its hilarious that you are saying this after pumping the Oilers tires for 2 weeks...go look at who they have played, with backup goalies, rest, ect.
Flames 9 points is far more impressive than the Oilers 10 where they got outplayed almost every game
|
In regards to competition - here's the records of the team's they've beaten on this streak outside of their losses to the Flames:
Detroit 3-1-1
Washington 4-0-1
NY Rangers 4-1-1
New Jersey 3-1
So a combined 14-3-3 against the rest of the league and 0-3-1 against the Flames.

This version of Flames hockey is a pleasure to watch. Shutter does bring out the best in players. Even the backup goaltender can be rely upon consistently. Solid team efforts, excellent coaching, Bravo!

Eatbread should be captain.
Always consistently scores (not just on hot streaks but even going back to the last two years)
Undrafted, then 6th rounder, then AHLer... he's the natural successor to Gio
works hard
Strong on both sides of special teams
Shows up in the playoffs unlike Lindholm

Seems like Darryl has his team’s back and we know he’s no stranger to the old ‘us against the world’
So glad to see a real coach. This team has too many good players that have been inconsistent for years
I’m really liking what we are seeing of late

To be honest, even Sutter couldn't make it work with the no-hit,butter soft, piece of crap, 90lb weakling of a team last year .
Good thing Treliving got his head out of his ass and addressed it this off season. finally
125 hits in 6 games. Gotta keep that up.

I think there is credit due

Well compare this roster with the one from the past 2-3 years. You don't think they are harder to play against? Lucic is great but he couldn't do it all.
I mean if Sutter could do it with the butter soft team why even make a single change in the off-season?
Sutter is a top 3 coach in this league but even he can't squeeze orange julius from a pine cone. (only McJesus can)

Because change was needed regardless.
I have no doubt that had Sutter been with the team all season or if it was a full 82 game season that the Flames would have ended up making the playoffs. That's why I was never on the "blow it up" bandwagon.

yup, swapping Bennett for Coleman, Gio for Kylington, Nesterov for Gudbranson, and Ryan for Lewis definitely turned the team from butter soft to rough and tough.
All the tough guys brought in are in the pressbox, and the two toughest guys up front should be in the pressbox for how well they’re playing most nights (though Lucic and Ritchie were actually solid-to-good yesterday. This hard to play against is coming from the GAF meter increase. Everyone’s skating harder and being harder on pucks. The Flames have the puck most of the night and that’s what’s tough to play against.

Gudbranson, Pitlick, Lewis were all in the lineup. and yeah, Lewis and Gudbranson are tougher than Ryan and Nesterov.
Is that the difference? Who knows.

Came here looking for it, but has anyone seen the Reddit questioning whether the 3rd NJD goal actually crossed the line? I haven't seen a replay that definitively shows it actually going in.

Interesting. Replay is inconclusive but they never gave us more angles. It did look to me like it was briefly reviewed? Flames didn’t seem to complain too much.
