They're shorthanded every shift. Backlund is an anchor on that line, not willing or able to pay the price to get into dangerous positions to score.
13 and 23 need a finisher. That was Ferland. That was Lindy. It's not Backlund.
It's causing those other two turn it over more regularly.

Good period, Gaudreau needs to figure out how to be a star nhl player in tight checking games. He is clueless on how to not be a liability at this point.
Also, the boa, old school hard nosed hockey is dead. Today’s nhl is a dipsy-doodle, toe dragfest. There is zero bad blood, hate, anger in today’s game.
I took a bunch of americans and English folk to a hnic game 2 weeks ago in mtl, if it’s not a 6-5 game what a boring game it’s become. The nhl had one thing no other league had, ability to let a player’s emotion out on the field of play. Nhl numbers are going to take a hit no doubt. The nfl and nba offer way more entertainment value than the average hockey game, especially after dec, where games become even more tight checking.

Where were you on that no playoffs - mid regular season Tuesday night when the Oilers scored on the Coyotes?

Monahan is a pretty darn good finisher. I’d like to see Bennett there to dig in the corners instead of Johnny trying to do it

No, we definitely should trade 11 if we can. That is a lot of salary to move down the line up and his offensive game is non existent now and his defensive game has really fallen off. Trade him now before he becomes an anchor contract. The problem is I think he has a NTC.

That's a pretty big ish. Matthew's savardian spin-o-Rama blind backhand was a full speed streaking. Massive difference.
It was a beauty play yes but a pretty big gap between the two.

Some astute analysis by Remenda, not holding back on his criticism.
I never thought I would type those words.

I dont see Backl8nd contract being an anchor at any point. And I dont think we should trade him either. I believe hes the 3rd line center we need. It's the kind of placement of a player that real cup contenders have. Hes still good.

Yeah, you are probable right, something is missing there for sure. Backs is a great 3rd C, but he may be making this line crappy. Soft as butter.
Could use a big RW that can shoot and skate.

It’s all a setup for the usual second intermission “look how they learned from their mistakes...the road to the Stanley Cup, Art Ross and Calder is paved”

Even the commercials for the area the Oil play suck. That’s pretty funny.

I disagree. I don't think he is an upgrade on Ryan at 3rd line C, especially at 5M+ a year. If we can put him in a package to upgrade our RW situation I think it makes this team much better. This is not the same Michael Backlund, it is like that Avalanche series destroyed him.

Are they anymore players available in the mold of Blake Wheeler? Or like a true RH Pacioretty?
