Jokipakka may have been the flames best D-man today, partly because Brodie, Gio and Wideman had many lapses, and Hamilton was invisible before his goal
In fairness to Hamilton, if he was invisible, he was doing his job on the back end.
Wideman, OTOH, was extremely visible.

What a game to be at. The building was energized even though it is January it had the feeling and tone of a April game.
Johnson was incredible, Tkachuk was a menace and the engine for the forwards. Hamilton had his hands full with a tenacious SJ physical and fast attack. Thought he played great.
Monahan and Bennett were both off their game again.
Skating and handling the puck is just not where it needs to be from both of them. Chaisson made quite a few bone headed plays.
Johnny was hacked quite a bit yet again. Not happy seeing that crap go unpoliced again.
Just wanted to add that it was great to see the confidence in Tkachuk; putting such a young player out there in the final minute of a one goal game.
Of course we are missing the real culprit on the breakaway; the referees. Breakaway Shweakaway if they do their jobs correctly on the empty net breakaway by Gaudreau.

Sort of. Giordano blew that so badly none of the other mistakes matter. Whether tkachuk turns it over or not, whether Hamilton is in deep, there's no way a player should be that open with that much time left in a man advantage situation.
That was a major league pants pooing. All-Star material. If ####ting your pants in public was an Olympic sport Giordano could've medalled tonight if Johnson doesn't make a huge save.
Kind of like a safety playing the run when other teams 's only hope is a hail mary pass. Can only hope it's a lesson learned and never happens again.

I dont recall seeing it in this thread but it should be talked about. The main reason we were able to get that game winner was because of Frolik, and that amazing dive to keep the puck away from the sharks dman. They would have cleared the zone no problem.

Yup -- the desperation and push from that line in the late stages of a tied hockey game was the difference. Frolik knew he could set up Tkachuk for a decent SOG -- hence the dive.
People also talk about the Tkachuk celly -- it's clear he thought he tipped it himself based on his reaction (whether he did is another question) -- but what about Backlund's celly. The jump/bear hug into Dougie -- it was like they scored an OT series winning goal, not a regular season game in mid-January. Love the intensity.

Exp:
Most hilarious part of the game is when Mueller got kicked out of the game due to his name not being on the lineup sheet.
The camera shows Joe Thornton on the bench laughing his ass off and pointing at the jumbotron as Mueller is shown leaving the bench. The audio clearly picks him up exclaiming with glee, "Hahaha f##k him boys!"

Gio in general kind of had an iffy game. I can't remember if this lead to the Boedker breakaway/penalty shot but I remember watching Gio take a few steps into the offensive zone after backing out from the blue line looking to maybe pinch, realizing he couldn't make it in time, and started turning around to cover the man that got behind him who ended up with a chance anyways.

Jumbo Joe is the best.
Gotta be a great guy to have around.

Didn't get a chance to watch the game, but after seeing the highlights it seems like we were lucky to pull off the win.
I wouldn't say that. It was a pretty even game. The Sharks had those two golden chances late that Chad stopped, other than that the pace was pretty back and forth.

I'm pretty sure that the stick-stealing penalty on Tkachuk was for carrying two sticks, not for what he actually did to Burns. That one was the right call.

Johnson saved the game with those two saves on the penalty shot and breakaway. But how come no one is pointing out the fact that the first goal was somewhat his fault. Engelland barely standing pushes the puck towards Johnson to cover up, instead Johnson freezes and does nothing leading to the goal. It seemed like a simple play for Johnson to cover up and get a whistle.
I've been super happy with Johnson this season and not hating on him. Just feel because he made those two saves in the 3rd that he's getting praise for saving the day.

Did he, or did he not, "save the day"? When the game was on the line, what did Johnson do? WTF is with people looking for negatives after a pretty good win against the division leader.

So I get that it sucked for the Sharks to play almost the entire game with 5 D, but why is it not in the rules that there's a 2 minute bench minor to go along with that? A player gets 2 minutes for using illegal equipment like a broken stick, but there's no penalty for using an illegal player for a couple of shifts? Whats up with that?
