But I like some of the Flyers, what I need is for the postie to sort out the crappy ones from the ones I like.

No way that happens this time. Harper's government were very anti-union, and that legislation was deeming an essential service (due to CPP cheques, etc). Apparently they now have a contingency plan in place to deliver those once a month. If the union doesn't sign this last contract (or now a worse one) I suspect they're out of work for the summer.

Good point.
But I have to think the union will eventually cave. Their pension is something like $6 Billion in the hole and the new plan would see them get defined contribution plans like the rest of the world. And I'd be willing to bet it won't be a crappy DCP either.

Both parties have a signed memorandum of agreement which specifically has language to deliver essential mail once per month. This won't be legislated back to work. Good for the postal workers... Canada Post has been bargaining in bad faith since day one.
Also, scabs who cross the line are the worst form of scum on the planet.

You're right, extended work stoppages are always awesome for the workers.

That would be purolator workers, they are owned by CP and all parcels are now done by them.

No they're the last resort. But standing up for your rights, like Verizon workers did, is a great thing. Too often people roll over and give in.

Or anyone who would cross the line and work as a scab. It's akin to treason, just a total absence of ethics.

Well if they think the compensation package offered by Canada Post is fair, what makes them scum for wanting to keep working? Are you one of those nutcases that would bang on their car, yell and jeer at them like an orangutan?
I'd want to be a scab just so I could see the vein bulge in the foreheads of guys like that. Love seeing dopes get angry.

I take it back. That was harsh.
I meant it quire facetiously, but it came across wrong. I have no love of unions, since some unions can really disrupt production and commerce, but I know that associations and unions are very important to a lot of people. I also don't like how some unions take dues from it's members and serve no real purpose for the worker.

Scabs are just people looking for work willing to do a job for less than the people currently doing it. They're not evil, they're market economics.

So people, who will work for a fair and reasonable wage, in order to support themselves and their families, are the worst form of scum on the planet? I didn't know they were worse than rapists, child molesters, tax evaders, drug dealers, and violent gang members. Your statement is beyond ridiculous.

The problem is that person will get all the benefits that people who actually fought for it earned them. In a lot of cases most employees who cross picket lines end up quitting their job because their coworkers no longer want anything to do with them.

Totally. It's mind boggling how the orangutans can't see it like that. The union basically whips up its members into an organized and legal mob. They all have group think where they overestimate the value of walking this piece of paper over to that metal box. Sorry, it's easy and you're overpaid. And your pension is too big. It's so basic. Too bad it sucks, but don't get all angry and shouty at basic facts.

In my experience they are typically just people with no backbone who are willing to work for less than they deserve. But you're entitled to your opinion. Have you ever known anyone who's crossed a picket line?
