Agree about Backlund but think Hartley has shown a ton of confidence in Baertschi recently, even having him on the ice in the last minute last night and increased his PP time.

I love how when Baertschi does anything good it is in spite of Hartley and whenever he has a bad shift it is because Hartley is ruining him.

Not the stance I meant to take. Just pointing out that people are being pretty darn critical of a rookie. Mistakes will be made - by all rookies, and veterans. Sven just seems to be taking an extra hard beating in this thread, as if the loss is entirely on his mistakes and not the entire team's mistakes (although I may just be a bit sensitive as yeah, Sven is one of my favourite players - even though he has struggled pretty hard at times this season).

That Kane goal alone is a good example - Monahan has to do better not to lose that draw so cleanly, and Berra misplayed the shot. 3 of the 6 players on the ice failed pretty horrifically.

Just step back for a minute and think about the post game comments from the last 10 or 20 games...

Baertschi has probably gotten more criticism than most of the other players combined.

Monahan is a good example. He has made plenty of mistakes in his own end - zero criticism. He lost that draw... Baertschi's fault.

Cammalleri has coughed the puck up at his own blueline several times recently. The defense couldn't clear the zone to save their life.

But Baertschi ices the puck (when all he was trying to do was get it out) and that's all anyone can talk about.

I thought Colborne had his worst game in maybe the last 5 or so, not a word from anyone.

Why is Baertschi under a microscope?

The answer is that Hartley put him there.

You don't want to give kids jobs. But the flip side is that you do want to put them in a position to succeed. Hartley has failed in that regard.

The answer is that he made back to back glaring mistakes that cost us the game.

I'm not saying that he is a bad player, but the fact is that he made two very noticeable mistakes at the end of the game. He made it very easy for just about anyone to criticize him, and he does deserves a certain amount of that criticism.

Sven has been doing very well lately, but just don't act all surprised and offended that he gets criticism for making mistakes that cost us the game. Accept it and move on.

With a guy like Bart who got away with playing a more risky game in junior because of his skill, the NHL this year and last has come as a bit of a shocker.

I'm not saying that he has to caution up his game, but he needs to do more thinking and less reacting out there.

Be a wolf hound but not a slavering rabid dog.

As far as the missed goal, beauty pass by Monahan that was just a bit to far into Sven's hands for him to do much with.

Its up to Sven to rebound from a tough game.

Like I said before I don't question his heart and desire as much as things came way too easy for him and I think he's become a touch complacent.
