With Feaster gone, my prediction is that Ramo will be traded (hopefully) or be placed on waivers by the end of the year.
Edit: By year I meant season. =P

Why? Ramo has been the better of the two goalies, especially these last few games.

I would actually be curious to know Burke's stance on our goalie situation.
Having said that, I think Ramo is playing well enough to warrant a good chunk of starts for the rest of the season and a chance to compete for the #1 next year (unless they pick up another goalie via trade or free agency, which I think would be a waste).

In his last 4 starts he is:
3-1-0
1.48 GAA
.944 SP
And yet you continue unabated to attack him with no acknowledgement of what is actually happening.
Did he bang your girlfriend?

Heard him on CBC this morning giving an evaluation of the team. He said they need to improve up front and on D but that the goalies were rounding into shape. I was surprised by that, since when first hired he said goal was the most pressing need.

Ramo's definitely found his footing. Been excellent for several games now.
Now 5-5-1 with a .903 SV% and 2.82 GAA
Steadily improving towards respectable "starter" numbers.

Obviously ultra small sample size.. but in December:
Ramo 1.63 GAA and 941 save pct
Berra 1.48 GAA and 945 save pct
They've played well of late despite everyone going off the deep end on every goal they allow.

Per Flames twitter -- Ramo gets the start again tomorrow night. Riding the hot hand I guess.

Play until you lose. I like it. Give the goalies a chance to run their hot streak and improve consistency.

That is what I think too! I think either one of these goalies has a chance to become a decent #1. I feel way more comfortable watching either one out there than the last 8 year's worth of backups (which isn't saying much, I know), but the point being is that they at least look like fringe NHL tenders, with a possibility of becoming stable and even good! They both show moments of making great saves and being able to recover from multiple shots.
I think you won't be really able to read either one of these goalies fully until the 20-25 game mark played each. There is simply no denying that they have both been improving, and I don't mean just statistically. I think they are both making less mistakes and they are both showing better positioning and composure. How much more they show is the question, but they are both progressing.
I do think they can provide the Flames with stable goaltending until Gillies or even someone else steps up and becomes a sure-fire starter, but I also don't think that either one of these goalies should be crossed off from that possibility themselves! Let's just see what they look like for the rest of this season, and see if they continue to improve and make fewer mistakes out there as the season wears on.
I also really want to see Ortio at some point this season to see how he stacks up against them, and see how he stacks up against NHL-level shooters on nightly basis. He is looking great at the AHL level, has looked great in Finland, looked great at the WJC - I think it is important organizationally to see how close or far he is from the NHL.

I never expected we'd have a goalie with a winning record nearly midway into the season.
Ramo
6-5-1
And also, what the hell is up with this team winning in OT/SO?

I don't know, but it's great. As much as I want a lottery pick in the draft I don't want us to tank intentionally. Winning in OT against these bottom feeders (Buffalo and Suckmonton) lets us have our cake & eat it. Earn the bragging rights, but don't fall too far in front of the pack.
For the record I think Ramo has looked awesome lately. He still sometimes gets himself wildly out of position, but I like his athleticism & reflexes.
Odds on which goalie gets the first shutout? Gotta be Ramo.

Hartley said during an interview that he wants to play Ramo and Berra for long stretches of games to find out how they would play as a number 1 goalie. It wasn't about how hot they were playing, but about how they play under a heavy workload, and knowing that they will be playing a lot regardless of a good or bad game.
Made a ton of sense to me.

This has been brought up before and is a definite possibility. We have to get to the cap floor, and despite some good recent outing by both goalies, the position is hardly set in stone. Especially if we are expediting the rebuild. I would've thought Anaheim would let him walk after this year, if Fasth could've duplicated last years results, but Hiller has been getting the lions share of starts and has the better stats. But Andersen has been great in 9 games and they have Gibson waiting in the wings, so who knows. He was Burke signing in Anaheim back in '07.
