Alberta county councillor says he's being blackmailed
http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2.../21113711.html
A Strathcona County councillor says he is being blackmailed to not seek re-election after lewd correspondence and explicit images of him were mailed to his wife and the county’s mayor.
At a council meeting on Tuesday, Jason Gariepy admitted he had engaged in an explicit online exchange, which includes e-mails, text messages and nude photos of himself. The married father of two claims that the exchange is being used as an extortion attempt to dissuade him from seeking re-election.

If a man/woman can manage their extra-marital affairs, surely that must speak to their management abilities no?

		| When I first arrived in Calgary eight years ago, community service was how I began to understand my community and my role in it. Arriving from Thunder Bay, Ontario with my spouse of eleven years, I immediately sought out opportunities to build community and have never stopped.
During the past eight years I’ve worked with many exceptional organizations and people. Whether affecting positive changes for small and medium sized businesses in Calgary through the Chamber of Commerce, improving neighbourhood life with Community Associations and the Federation of Calgary Communities, or through the work of the Rotary Club of Calgary; community has always been a priority for me. I’ve also worked with many grassroots advocacy efforts in Ward 1 and beyond such as the Tuscany cell phone tower group, the North West Calgary casino application, and advocating for our North West Recreation Centre's P3 funding.

My professional life has seen me work as a senior business advisor with some of Canada’s leading businesses to help them do more with what they already have. I work with leaders in business every day to help them be the most effective and service orientated organizations they can be and I will offer that expertise as a member of Calgary City Council.

I got a card in the mail yesterday from Katz. He appears to be running on the "It's not your money, give it back!" platform.

I don't think it's the family man part of that paragraph that "makes" him a good candidate.

No.

Zach Pashak came close in 2010 but isn't running this time. He lost by 2500 votes (11,600 vs 9100). I don't know tons about either newcomer, but can tell you Newman often has a hacked Twitter account and sends spam to people. Really needs help with his social media game.

Mar will win it again.

Ask them if they'll increase developer levies by at least $7K per house. Anyone who says no, or dodges the question, is either a Manning Centre candidate or might as well be.

I've heard that the Manning Centre overlords have switched their support to Wilkie because they feel Katz is too much of a doofus to actually win an election.

I know someone else said this on the forum, maybe even in this thread, but can we please outlaw election signs on public property? I am pretty sure they aren't even legal yet, but the blight has already started...

Although, hrm, might have to switch my support...

Carra is a pretty decent guy and a strong councillor, but he can rub people really wrong. I'm not in the city, co I don't have boots on the ground, but my feeling would be that Carra is pretty safe in regards to his seat. 2010 was different because there was no incumbent and Carra had to build a name for himself with a smaller warchest. Now he's a sitting incumbent he'll have more resources to focus on the ares where he did weaker, plus he'll have a strong name recognition.
 |
Yeah, I'm one of the people that he rubs the wrong way. Mostly because my wife has dealt with him prior to him joining council when he was head of the Inglewood CA. He's got a massive ego, very confrontational, and not a team player by any stretch. Which is one reason I'm not a fan of him on council. If I remember correctly he was strongly chastised for some rather derogatory comments towards the planning department during a council meeting.
