I always respected Jane Goodall as someone who came from relatively high privilege and chose to do as much good as possible with it in a field she was passionate about. Without the family business connections in colonial Kenya, she probably wouldn't have had the opportunity to study chimps at an early age or be one of a very small number of people allowed to go for a PHD before even having a bachelor's degree.
The positive contributions that she made in primate research, animal and ecological activism can't be denied and she didn't squander the chance to use her lot in life to do good.
