But I made a nice chicken soup last night with the perfect set of miscellaneous things I had on hand. Made me and my family happy to have a nice hot batch of chicken/veggie soup due to the cold/flu/cough/itchy throat etc. we've been dealing with for 2-3 weeks now. It really hit the spot.
Dried onion flakes, parsley flakes, salt and chicken is the perfect basis for chicken soup. Then all sorts of other fresh and frozen veggies, canned/dried beans, noodles etc. work great to make it even more filling.

Turkey soup for us... was surprised how much meat I pulled off that carcass after it had been in a slow boil for about 4 hours. Threw in all the other bits and pieces of (frozen) leftover bits from stuffing to veggies to gravy to cranberry. So good. Will be taking a couple days to consume this pot.

Did you thicken it with leftover mashed potato?
I added some pasta to make it more filling and it synergizes well IMO when adding Sambal Oelek.

a few ways to thicken your soups... small cut potato (they eventually disintegrate if cooked long enough), small cauliflower pieces, zucchini, chick peas. Some people add other thickeners too.

Agreed. I mentioned mashed potato because the odds of it being a leftover right now is slightly higher than usual. it always feels good to throw leftovers together to clear out space and end up with a harmonious and delicious concoction.

I love curry foods, but never make them. Any simple tricks? Note that I am not Gordon Ramsey.

Spending a few hours with our eight-year-old grandson, who reads books by himself, watches movies with us that are not great but something we can watch together, will engage in more than toddler play, and will have an intelligent debate such as who would prevail in a fight between Superman and Batman.
That’s what makes me happy.

How timely, the WRMMH I came to post was when you check in for a flight and the upgrade is cheap.
Enjoy your crushed knees peasants, I'll be up here with the free booze

We flew Vietjet in Vietnam, and the upgrade was $2.00. It came with a complimentary drink and snack, and in the first 6 or so rows. I could not buy that upgrade fast enough.

I usually avoid curries because the kids can't take spice, but I realized they can handle Japanese curries. I'll have to consider doing a mirepoix + leftovers curry concoction more often. Thanks for the idea!

Not really, you can get pre-made sauces
This one from Calgary Co-Op is amazing
Frankly when i was learning to cook (I'm still learning) I would make a curry curry by cooking onions, garlic, curry powder, then mix in veggies anything I had, usually boiled potato, zucchini, leftover broccoli, peppers then cook that, mix in some plane yogurt or sour cream anything to make it saucy.
By no imagination was it a "true curry" but it was cheap and easy I often just chucked in whatever meat I had handy.
Had it over rice. It was easy and cheap, UCB was poor in Uni.

Our kids have been eating "curries" since they started eating food. There are options that aren't spicy like that gateway butter chicken sauce I posted above.

Working at home with hot cocoa and a splash of Baileys with the space heater going under the desk while snow falls outside.
Fridge fully stocked with food so no reason to go anywhere either.

Japanese curry ftw. I miss Calgary October snow. It's a bit chill here in Vancouver.

Flavored or not for Bailey's? I'm curious to know how the Almond flavored one would taste in coffee.
Regular Bailey's in coffee is good. But Godiva white chocolate is better. Not as thick.

My daughter is into a card game called Netrunner. They recently had a world championships in Barcelona. As part of the event, people could submit Netrunner-themed artwork, and if selected, they would be framed by the organizer and put on sale with all proceeds going to the artist.
Several cards are named after various birds. For example, here is the card called Shrike:
My daughter found all of the bird-themed cards, and created a traditional wildlife poster based on them with the descriptions showcasing the birds' attributes. It was accepted a few months ago by the tournament. I just found out that it sold out immediately. Here is the poster:
(from the tournament wrapup blog post)
Hearing one of the big voices in the Netrunner world raving about it really made my (and her) day (skip to the 1:40:00 mark of this video):
Video is not allowing embedding, but here is the timestamped video link)
