If it's any indication we were doing about 60kph (according to our bike comps) for a few minutes while going downhill. There are no huge hills, its just.... Lengthy uphill parts.
I might try the Legacy Trail first, if you haven't already. I have seen young kids on that and it's a nice ride.

We've done legacy which is a nice ride along with goat creek at the end of last year.

Figured out how to get my garmin unit working for the ride home.
I don't like the edge 500 because I like to have the time displayed and the tour edge does that.
A unit that combines the best of these two would be nice

I didn't realize you couldn't with the 500. I have a 510. I have setup up two different screens. One for Mountain biking and one for road biking. For mountain bike, I show time of day, time ridden, speed and slope. For road, I have time of day, time ridden, speed, cadence, heart rate, power, slope.

I have the Garmin Edge 500 in red which came with the heart monitor. I drove today but I can take a screen shot tonight when I get home or after I ride tomorrow morning. It absolutely displays the time. You can have three (maybe more) screens of data and each one can have eight data things on it. My main screen is set up with eight boxes set up like :
1 2
3 4
5 6
7 8
1 - Duration of trip
2 - Speed
3 - Distance of trip
4 - Time of day
5 - Calories burned
6 - Elevation
7 - Heart rate
8 - Cadence
I use it on three of my bikes, and all have a cadence and speed sensor on them. All three bikes are set up on the Garmin and then I just switch it to which bike I'm riding and mount it on the stem.

^Exactly.
All the screens are customizable, you can choose how many fields to show, and what you want in each one, including the current time. If you're still stuck when I dig mine out and charge it next week I'll post more details.

perhaps a bit off topic, but can anyone recommend a pump sold locally that works well with 12 inch tires? It is hard to fit any of mine in there, and my oldest is blowing through tires.

^ so the problem is that the lock-on lever is too big to fit in between spokes?
Have you tried a CO2 inflator? Those things are usually pretty low-profile.

seems like it is a good cycling day for me as a box of goddies i ordered friday from jenson usa arrived at my office this afternoon and cyclepath called to tell me that the mavic shoes i ordered have arrived.
i ordered the shoes without trying them on so hopefully they fit.
i will pick them up after dropping my son off at hockey this afternoon........

do you have an air compressor - you can buy a double ended (think push down or pull up) tire inflation chi=uck that should fit in what is likely a small space.
some emergency pumps have a smaller head/lower profile

Exactly. I can attach it and pump, but can't detach smoothly, so sometimes a bunch of air is lost. I was thinking of a cartridge one, but would prefer something with a pump. Hey, if he can't pump it he can't ride right?

If you go to one of the bike shops, or a place like Tri-It, you should be able to find it.
Tell them you're looking for a "Crack Pipe" for disk wheels and they should know what you are talking about.

Bought this one today; I may also be inheriting a used Ridley cross-bike, so I figure I'm set for any kind of commuting conditions, as well as for leisure riding with my kids, which I would just do on the Brodie. That thing can fly though.
