These are songs mostly from my formative years and are the kind of songs that I remember jumping out at me immediately. The kind that had me running to the record store when I first heard them.

Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run

The Clash - Rock the Casbah

The Who - Baba O'Riley

U2 - Bad

Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Child (Slight Return)

Radiohead - Fake Plastic Trees

A lot of the ones I would have posted are already up so here's a couple:

For whatever reason I like songs with allusion to relgion, not necessarily pro or anti though. Songs like Hallelujah are some of my favourite, Jeff Buckley's version being the best in my opinion. So this song was one of my favourites when I first heard it, although I'm thinking it wont be everyone's cup of tea:

And then here's one for the nostalgia.

I know, but I'm still sad and pumped by this song. Having it played right before [spoiler alert] Opitmus prime is shot and then when Hot Rod becomes Rodimus Prime and turns Unicron into a scrap heap are 2 of the biggest events to happen to my generation!

All Along the Watchtower by Jimmy Hendrix really got me good; just such an original song.

Also, although it sounds cheesy, Halycon and On and On by Orbital is really good song that just brings me peace of mind no matter how many times I hear it. For the record, the original Mortal Kombat soundtrack was one hell of an album.

Yah Yah, I know, but Jimmy made it sound so much better - I think of his version first before anything and thus, it's original to me

Yeah, I was gonna say, wtf, Neil Young?

The cover of All along the watchtower by Hendrix is probably the greatest cover of all time.

Dylan has described his reaction to hearing Hendrix's version: "It overwhelmed me, really. He had such talent, he could find things inside a song and vigorously develop them. He found things that other people wouldn't think of finding in there. He probably improved upon it by the spaces he was using. I took license with the song from his version, actually, and continue to do it to this day."[25] In the booklet accompanying his Biograph album, Dylan said: "I liked Jimi Hendrix's record of this and ever since he died I've been doing it that way... Strange how when I sing it, I always feel it's a tribute to him in some kind of way."

Here's one from one of my favourite bands lately, Porcupine Tree. Hard to find all their vids on YouTube, I'd highly recommend downloading them if you're into amazing prog rock. They do have a bit of a harder edge than this song too

A stunning instrumental by Radiohead that not everybody has heard. Good under the influence on a good system

I've gotta echo a bunch of the previous choices in this thread. Never have I had my spine tingle so much as at a TOOL concert. Radiohead and APC were good choices. My Weakness by Moby is stunning.

As I got into some heavier stuff this band produces some of the most mind blowing songs (Opeth). Almost everything by them is amazing for me.

The most beautiful Muse song

Portishead is one my favourites that hasn't been mentioned so far. They have an amazing live disc called P:NYC

Surprised I didn't see any mention of Massive Attack. One of my favourite bands right after high school. I played their album Mezzanine in my car for a year straight and it remains on my desert island list.

I might update this again or post more. In the Light by Zeppelin or Ten Years Gone is another goodie.

Deerhunter - Intro + Cryptograms (live) (after a joint) (not knowing what to expect)

Whole concert posted, but the first few minutes is what i'm talking about. Just go see them.
