I am starting to think this thread is only for her to show off. It doesn't seem like she's looking for help.

Yup, I'd have to agree to the last couple posts. You keep bringing up possible solutions, but then suddenly make up some lame excuse about how hard it is to stop! Well if you really wanted to stop, I think you wouldn't keep posting here for help, and just act on one of those solutions. (ie. to go cold turkey, save up, and stop complaining about how difficult it is to stop buying $500+ items on a weekly basis)

Well it's really quite simple. DON'T BUY STUFF.
It's like me saying man I cant stop walking into this wall........... I just keep doing it...
|
Well, if stopping were as 'simple' as you are making it out to be, don't you think I WOULD have stopped???
It's not a matter of not trying, it's a matter of realizing I have a problem and trying to fix it.
If someone had brain cancer (the problem) and was getting really bad headaches (the symptom), would you just give them a bottle of Tylenol and send them on their way? They would not have a headache after taking a Tylenol, but they'd still have brain cancer.
I will list some things as to WHY I might be overspending, so if any of those things apply, then I needs to work on them and probably the impulse/over-spending will subside.
But then again, everyone just assumes im a show off, so maybe I should stop putting my input into a careless thread.

Thats the most ridiculous comparisson I have ever seen. You simply need to prioritize your life and stop spending like a spoiled little kid.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again each time expecting different results.
That is all.

That is all well and good for you, but in fact I do NEED my cellphone for work. Can't live without it. Just like I can't live without the Internet for work. Both weren't available when I graduated from University, but now both are necessities. Thats just the way it is. Times change.
So yes, at least one person on this planet NEEDS a cellphone.

So, why don't we change this to the "What would I do with the $1800 MissKat frittered away" thread?
I would replace the hot water tank in my house and re-build my rotting deck.
What would the rest of you do?

Work didn't get done before cell phones?
I was talking along the lines of personal use. If you have a phone at home, you don't need a cell phone as well.

Actually, you'd be fired if you didn't pick up your cell in my line of work. I'm constantly out on the field, so my work and client can only get in touch with me via cell. And yes, work would be haulted, resulting in millions of lost dollars if I can't respond.

I am with you for the most part. I think some people just become so attached to the cell phones that they believe wholeheartedly that they need it and can't live without it. Though I will admit, there are people that do genuinely need it for work, without a cell, it would be a lot harder for them. Either way, the point to remember is that while there are those that need a cell, there isn't really anyone that truly needs a $1200 one.

I am pretty anti cell phone myself, in fact I hate them, I wish I didn’t have one, the problem with them is that nobody listens to anybody anymore, If I out with my buddies I am out be with them to have fun, not to have my girlfriend call me and expect to talk for 2 hours, and vice versa, If I am out with her I don’t want my buddies calling me and asking me to come out and party
Its just sad, to me there is noting more Rude than talking to someone, or being out for diner, and having the person you are out with stop your conversation and say oh hold on my phone is ringing, and then having to wait for 10 minutes for them to get off the phone, its just sad, nobody focuses anymore, nobody really listens to anyone we are all so worried about our selves about who is going to call us next, people are letting these stupid little things control our lives
Ahhh end rant

Yeah this is definitely true and becoming a bigger and bigger problem. Personally I usually shut my phone off if I'm somewhere worth shutting the phone off- like being on a date with the girlfriend or out with other friends and I don't want to talk. I don't really like phones, but I use my cell phone for work. I don't like being at dinner, or out with someone where it's one on one with the person, and they answer and start talking. I feel kind of stupid and unimportant.

Frank,
Work did get done before cell phones, it also got done before computers, so what? Now most people use both for work. You probably couldn't get much done without your mac, I'm guessing.
As far as for personal use, then I agree with you 100% There is nothing worse then being with a person who isn't really there because they are blabbing on the cell phone. People blab so much about nothing.

Yeah, cell phones are a no-no on a date. Leave em at home.

I realize some peoples jobs require them to carry a cell phone. All I am saying is that 99% of peoples jobs existed before the invention of the cell phone. Therefore, the work got done before, just like it is now, just in a different manner. If my job required me to carry a cell phone and my employer paid for it, then I'd carry one for work. People don't need a home phone and a cell phone just so they are "available".

I would say that you actually $600 poorer if you sold a $1200 phone for 50% of its original value after using it for what... 3 weeks?
Maybe it is a step in the right direction but only time will tell.....
