Nah Bennett can still EAD. Hockey IQ of a grape.(regular season!.. lol)
that other thread should really be titled The Legend of Playoff Sam Bennett.

What was I doing? Pointing out that we have a direct quote from the player about the contract situation and simply brushing aside criticism towards Trelivng is foolish

Regular seasons make you money, playoffs make you a legend.

Just have a luxury tax and allow teams to resign existing players and go over the cap but pay the luxury tax
It allows teams to keep their teams together which is good for fans and the league , it raises overall player salaries which players like , and the luxury tax goes to lower revenue teams which they like
Why should a team that drafted great players be forced to trade them after a cup win /run when they need raises.
It doesn’t allow teams to buy teams because it would only be for their players , but allows teams to stay together if an owner is willing to pay .

Maybe add losing your 1st round pick and I'd be OK with that. They could do a lottery for those picks too in years when there are picks forfeited by luxury teams.
Rangers, Leafs, Tampa would not care about that if they could keep their players.

A few more stats:
CF% rel, top three (even strength, final four teams only)
1. Tkachuk 11.8
2. Bennett 10.1
3. Marchessault 10.0
FF% rel, top three (even strength, final four teams only)
1. Tkachuk 13.1
2. Bennett 12.0
3. Marchessault 11.9
(as a comparative, Eichel has a 6.3 CF% rel, and a 5.9 FF% rel)
Edit: Barkov has a 2.4 and 0.6, which is kinda crazy - but I think it's probably a lot better from about Game 3 of the second round (which I think is when I started noticing him playing better)
Even-strength shots, with Tkachuk not on the ice: Opposition: 354, Florida: 253 (-101 diff)
Even-strength shots, with Tkachuk on the ice: Florida: 154, Opposition: 110 (+44 diff)
Hits (all situations)
Tkachuk, reg season: 68 (0.86/game)
Tkachuk, playoffs: 52 (3.25/game)

He said things that are either facts or lies (not opinions), and I honestly couldn't see him lying about the specifics to the media and in front of the other people who were in the same room when the contract talks were going on.
Things that are just platitudes and opinions, like; "I love it here. This is where I want to be.", can often be dismissed because you don't ever really know what people are thinking, but Tkachuk stated some pretty specific details in the negotiations. I am inclined to take those statements at face value.

IMO Tkachuk knows exactly what he’s doing with media, and says exactly what he thinks will make him look good. Of course he’s going to say he was willing to play long term in Calgary. What’s he going to say “yeah, I wanted to be a UFA asap” or “I wanted out of Canada”. A media savvy guy like him is never going to say that. And he’s probably not lying - just perhaps leaving out that he was willing to stay but at a huge overpayment that wasn’t affordable no matter who the team moved. Or that when he says long term he means 6 years, not eight, and that he would have been asking for a trade by year three.
I a little surprised that so many CPers just take what he says at such a superficial level and assume a deal for, say 8 x 8M was possible.
This is nothing against Tkachuk. But watch his press conferences and you will see a guy who says all the right things - just in a non-cliche and purposeful manner.

Of the dozens of players that treliving was willing to overpay, it's strange that MT wasn't one of them.

I don't know. No one does except BT, Tkachuk and Edwards. And Tkachuk's agent I guess.
And maybe Big Daddy K.

The fact that Brady signed long term in Ottawa should dispel any notion that the Tkachuks are not willing or inclined to play in Canada. I think that argument is off the table.

Just because they share the same last name doesn't mean that they make the same decisions based on the same factors.
Nowhere did I make the argument that the Tkachuks won't sign in Canada.

Brady and Matthew are different people.
And here’s the list of teams M Tkachuk gave the Flames:
COL
VGK
STL
FLA
CAR
TBL
Notice no Canadian teams.

If something happened that made Brady want out or if he was bridged and had some control, he might have the same preferences. Let’s face it, most players do. That is why you cater to players while you can and lock them up long term.

Nothing wrong with that list. Would anyone here be feeling better by swapping any two of those teams for Vancouver and Edmonton?

That doesn’t mean, he wasn’t willing to sign the right offer with Calgary at some point previously
Like somebody already said, Tkachuk was not on top priority with Treliving. That’s messed up.

Bennett is going to win a Stanley Cup as a #1 centre.
(we'll then find out that Barkov has had a broken foot for months)
But still, hard to find two more overlooked players by this fanbase than Matthew Tkachuk and Sam Bennett. Loads of idiotic takes over the years:
"Lindholm is the one who does the heavy lifting"
No, it was Tkachuk.
"Tkachuk needs to cut that fancy crap out - stop trying between the legs"
No, that's elite skill in specific situations.
"Bennett has poor hockey IQ"
No, he does not. He takes penalties sometimes - true, but you want a player physically engaged - not someone coasting around playing a perimeter game which is what this team suffers from and has suffered from.
"Bennett doesn't use his teammates"
When you play a promising player with the likes of Brouwer and Jankowski, of course he's going to try and dangle through everyone - you've stapled two anchors to his hip.
Calgary Flames should have built their team around Tkachuk, Gaudreau, and Bennett as leaders, not Monahan, Backlund, and Giordano.
