I assume Kane will be the "Dion-type" in the dressing room running the radio and such. I really wonder how him and 'ole Kass will get along.

I'm thinking the exact same thing.

James Neal 2.0.

Right, that's the whole argument.

This isn't about morality, although some posters are probably doing that as well.

This is purely about whether or not it's a smart idea for a team with a fragile psyche to bring a volatile personality with a litany of negative acts happen around him in just the last year that made his team decide, "you know what? I don't care if he can score 20 goals. It's just not worth it to have him around this team.", and then voided his contract just to be rid of him.

This isn't the first time in his history that he's run into personality conflicts either, but it also became an issue of him consistently violating league policies on gambling, COVID, etc. He's not employable at all at this point.

This is the very definitions of "danger, Will Robinson, danger!" red flags around a player that may sink the chemistry, demeanor, or culture of a team. The Oilers have had some dark days lately when they struggled to win. Can you imagine if they have that sort of problem while ALSO dealing with Kane's antics?

It's just a terrible decision, and the Oilers deserved to be mocked because they're so desperate for it to work out. (Narrator: It didn't.)

I have no doubt that Kane does the things he does because he's hurting somewhere deep inside, but it doesn't mean that teams have to give him a job while he's sorting his crap out.

Honest question, if Fleury were about 15-20 years younger, knowing what you know about his public stance on many issues of late, would you even consider employing him either? No, you tell him to go get help and sort things out and then maybe you'll consider him down the line. That serves both the player and the organization.

This is terribly selfish by both parties involved, and it won't end well for any of them.

I'd be more concerned about Big Bird Darnell.

Or Smith

Or...

Yeah, this is definitely going to end badly (hilariously).

If Kane goes on a little tear, maybe they sign him 6x$8

I wonder if the Caps offered NHL-minimum and the Oilers had to overpay.

Apparently the Caps talked to him but made no offer at all.

So, what could go wrong?

One of the most reviled players in the NHL somehow escapes league punishment after having his contract nullified by the San Jose Sharks for running afoul of COVID-19 protocols for a second time this season and ends up in one of the league’s biggest fishbowls in Edmonton playing for one of the most fragile teams in the league.

Nope. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Ha. Ha. Just kidding.

You think the Oilers were a trainwreck from which you could not turn away before?

I was thinking it might be interesting to see how they sugar coat this up north but on second thought I don’t think I really wanna know.

If there was some way to put money on this, I would.

I find it curious that out of 31 other teams, it sounds like the only one willing to offer him a contract was Holland.

Oilers gonna Oil indeed.

"Kane was free to sign anywhere in the NHL - of course he would choose the chance to play beside McDavid!"

I guess Holland had to get cracking in order to beat that big, big bid of zero.

It’s amazing reading HF and people defending this guy, basically run out of town by his teammates in each team he’s played in, not to mention the questionable behaviour off the ice.

How can they think it’ll be different now?

He’ll be on his best behaviour this half of the season and then they sign him to a 6x6 and want out mid next year.

Crazy timing too. They were on the verge of sending Tippett and maybe others packing a few days ago! lol... Now they throw a flaming wrench into the rusted, brittle gears of that dressing room.

I think the Flames losing that game is the sole reason that trainwreck has not only stayed on its rails, but is now rounding a corner for a mountain filled with dynamite.

It could actually end up being the best worst loss ever.
