Fox claims to have not made a decision about returning to Harvard next season and will only do so after the NCAA tournament.

In case anyone else missed it, Dillon Dube is having a hell of a rookie season in the AHL.

And Fox won player of the year, led his league in scoring as a defenseman, is the first junior aged defenseman to reach 100 points in a career since 11-12 and won best college player in New England.

Both good propects. Who will end up better is still a debate. There is no reason to talk in absolutes about it.

My gut is we are seeing the same game we saw when he was traded.

He pretty much denied that he wouldn't sign in Calgary, but the back channels were telling a different story.

Not sure I'd buy anything he says at this point one way or the other.

Yea... cause he's totally going to hop on some radio show and publicly announce he has no plans to sign with the team that traded for him.

This kid has a cloud of "shade" around him, he's going to do what he wants and that's finish school and become a UFA.

Or, what was suggested yesterday, Fox gives Carolina a list of teams he would play for so he doesn't have to play that 4th year. Burns one year by playing this year (plus gets a 95k signing bonus for this year and then another 95k on July 1st) and it's essentially a 2yr ELC contract (has to be 3 year ELC because he is 21) getting him to RFA one year sooner than signing in August next year.

Although this only works if Harvard is eliminated this weekend.

Why would Carolina do this? Why would Fox do this?

Any media host with the name "Bucci Mane" also lends itself to both skepticism and reliability... I was hoping he too might have an ice cream cone tattooed on his face.

Carolina gets something. If they know he isn't going to sign anything is better than him walking away next August.

Fox would do this because he still gets to choose his desired destination. He burns a year, gets almost 200k in 3 months, and he becomes an RFA one year sooner than if he waited till August next year. Why wouldn't Fox do that.

Despite a few high profile cases, if one actually looked at the number of college players reaching UFA status, I'm going to guess that it is pretty low versus the number of kids that do sign.
Yeah, but it was very clear this was a high profile case. Emerging star, attending Harvard, going back for year three. That was it for me, but most held out high hopes, likely because they're Flames fans.

Great asset management by Brad.

Trust that Carolina sends him where he wants to go.

If they don't, he doesn't need to sign.

To be fair, Gaudreau signed after three years. And more importantly Jankowski signed after four. There was precedents to not be concerned with these type of situations for Flame fans.

per Lebrun on insider trading.

Fox will let Carolina know about his intentions 48 hours after Harvard is eliminated.

If he tells the Canes he won't sign with them, they will for sure trade his rights.

Should be quite the return for the Canes.

That's what he calls himself on Twitter for some reason. He's John Buccigross. He's a bigtime hockey (especially college hockey) guy at ESPN.

You're not going to find a more-reliable mainstream media guy in the realm of NCAA hockey than him.
