Big physical player != Successful bottom sixer
These days those kind of players almost have to be sheltered in the top six with high skill guys. To be a successful bottom sixer you need to be that kind of Byron or Frolik type of 200 foot player who really flies up the ice.
We've somewhat noticed that since Neal has gotten hurt - Czarnik is a better bottom sixer than Neal, even if Neal might be a better "top sixer" at his best.

We're not talking Kassian here, we're talking Simmonds.
As a rental.

I think that we're seeing where Ottawa may have waited too long and a lot of the players have moved on to other players.
If its for Stone as a rental, take out the conditional first.

And before you say that's because Neal was playing with Malkin, well, Simmonds hit his career-high of 60 points playing with Giroux. His career-high in hits is also lower than Neal's.

No one is afraid of Brouwer or Neal was what I was getting at. How many big hits have you seen Neal lay this year also? I’ll take quality of hits over quantity any day.

Is anyone afraid of Simmonds? He hits but are guys shaking in their boots? Are defencemen handing him the puck?

This is one of the most disappointing part of Neal's game this year. I was really expecting a mean SOB on the ice, but he has played soft all year.

If you were looking for big hits, that’s not his game. If you were looking for a stick in the ribs, yeah, that’s been not there as much. But I think his lack of confidence goes into that.

Do you watch Philadelphia often? When he is engaged in the game yes. I don’t think he’s been happy in Philly for quite some time. He can be a poor mans Iggy when he gets an anger streak going.

Not a lot of guys want to go into the corner with Simmonds...he hurts when he gets a piece of ya. Just one of those guys.

I watch them from time to time. I don’t think there are many players thatothers are scared of. The game moves too fast for that. And he’s really not that big. I have always liked his energy but he hits less hard than, say, Ferland.

That's the real question IMO

The numbers could work with just one of the above mentioned players, it might even be Ottawa retains some salary and a Flame with a smaller contract is sent the other way. (ie: Bennett, Jankowski, Czarnik, Mangiapane)

I wish John Weisbrod worked for the Senators.
Jankowski would be the centerpiece of a Stone deal.

Agree with this. He's not a big hitter. He's a good fighter in this age of the NHL.
But I do think youre basically getting what the Flames thought they were getting with James Neal from Simmonds with fighting bonus.

I could see Stone for Dube, Kylington and a pick? Ottawa wants young talent it seems to factor into things in 2-3 years.
Tough I know, but getting Stone will cause some pain somewhere.
