I have no faith in anything to do with this team anymore.

Team is actually playing decent, but they still struggle to win or be consistent.

Tre put his faith in this coaching staff and players, enough so that he went and blew all our high draft picks. If they can't get this turned around that was a major mistake and my belief in his abilities will have taken a major hit.

When they said the Preds have 64 points from 3 D-man, I thought that's a team where defense actually do something.

We have our entire 7 man D squad sitting with 52 points. For having a top 3 best D in the league that's just not acceptable.

For as much as we see them just pass the puck to the D and have them pass it around 20 times on the PP you'd think they'd score more, but when you're that predictable the opposing team is never out of place, we either get shots blocked or go wide.

I stayed quiet for so long on GG thinking he can at his best get the team playing like the end of last season, but if things don't turn around in the next 6-8 games I'm gonna start a friggin campaign to get him fired.

Just to entertain this idea you could technically just keep 2 players in your own end or one in the neutral zone and one in your own end and play 3 on 3 in the attacking end. I know it's silly to even think of but at this point if the flames have a 5 on 3 and NEED a goal then I wouldn't fault them for trying it.

You said it all. Our defense should be one of the top scoring blue lines in the league. Instead the Oilers' group of 3rd pair defensive defensemen are neck-and-neck with ours. No one has a green light, and we have seen tjis story before when guys like Bouwmeester and Phaneuf were neutered by Brent Sutter. I thought we were past that painful era but we have come full circle

New mantra? That has been the mantra for the Flames for 10+ years.
There's a mindset of being slightly better than average is good enough for this team, which flows through management, coaching, fans and players.

Then there's a smaller percentage of fans that want to see this team really start thinking like an elite team and doing everything to move in that direction. GG is not a coach of this mindset and I'm not sure upper management is either.

The good enough mindset that is always around the Flames is an infection we can't get rid of in my opinion.

Another failure to launch game by Gulutzan's Flames.

This team will continue to toil in mediocrity if this mindset doesn’t change.

Not sure why GG is getting so much of the blame. This team outside of Gaudreau is stacked with a bunch of middle 6 forwards who are all good players but are not the type of players who are going to create top scoring chances.

Hey plus side I believe if we miss the playoffs we keep our 2nd rounder this year so there's that. Silver linings and all.

If they miss the playoffs I believe they will be picking in the first and 2nd round at the draft...if this team can't get its #### together there is plenty to trade and very little available around the league

Its a little early for the whole sky is falling routine

I don't get all the "they played terribly" comments, it looked like a very solid effort to me. And in most situations, I would say solid effort but a bit unlucky with 4 posts - just move on and keep playing like that.

But two things make it hard to do that: first, the PP cost them a win for the fourth game in a row; and second, despite the fact that they outchanced the Preds, the two goals were the result of guys being wide open in front of Smith. Our passive zone coverage on D is driving me insane.

Under Hartley, I hated the collapsing D zone coverage, but I loved the way the D jumped into the play.

With Gulutzan, our D is still way too passive (playing zone and ignoring the man), but now they aren't jumping into the offense as much. Hartley wasn't the answer. But this is worse.

I agree with this. However, I want to add something here.

I do think that under Hartley, that collapsing shot-blocking coverage worked for the team he had. I wanted an aggressive Minnesota-style coverage where the opposing team was challenged to make a play quickly. However, Giordano and Brodie only started becoming a thing under Hartley. Other than that, you had Wideman who played really well for the most part, but was not fast enough to play that type of a game. Engelland was also too slow, Russell was undersized... Staios and the revolving door of 6th defencemen were either too slow or too weak to support that type of defensive system too.

In hindsight, I think that it was a good fit for the team. I do think he just made the most of what he had at the time. I also did love how active the defencemen were at generating offence. To me anyways, it seemed like a system that was really designed with the team's composition in mind. They weren't going to out-corsi anyone with that roster. They weren't going to out-defend anyone with that roster. They just played to their strengths and were challenged to play with a tonne of effort every night. They became a counter-attacking team that generated most of their offence off the rush.

I have to say, I keep wondering what adjustments Hartley would have made to his system if he was still here. I would imagine there would be some changes implemented. Maybe coaches just get to set in their system and dislike changing them. Who knows. I just have to agree that Gulutzan is seemingly not making the most out of the team's defensive strength right now, considering the Flames have the luxury of having offensive-type puck-movers throughout the lineup.
