Yea considering that the rights to actual NHL players isn't that high of a price in a lot of cases.
Didn't Sutter give up a third for the rights to star NHL defenceman Bouwmeester?
Is this kid going to be THAT good? Doesn't seem like a good thing to be betting on.

This Vesey saga is going to end in serious disappointment for the team who signs him. He's a good player yes for sure, but he's not THAT good to warrant this kind of circus.
Still, I think he'd be a good fit on the Flames LW battling with Tkachuk and Shinkaruk.

At the end of the day though it is no risk for the team taking him on. He isn't a July 1 UFA so teams rosters are fairly set. U less one team absolutely knows they were getting him from day 1 he bailed on Nashville then it is a simple no risk high reward situation. If he goes to the Hawks and fails to be in their top 12 somehow then they send him to the minors to get better it is a elc.

Vesey camp having last minute talks with Sabres. Will likely still go to FA, but Buffalo still very much in the mix.

What could the talks be about? I assume every team will offer him the max contract.

Probably just the Sabres making sure that their pitch is still fresh in his mind when he starts talking to other teams tomorrow.

agreed it's just hype at this point.
Literally a 0% chance Calgary signs him.

This probably isn't more of a circus than past free agents in the same position - the only difference is the media coverage is just way amped up.
Not sure I would even describe any of it as a circus.

Nope. Not only is it not literally zero as the Calgary Flames are an NHL hockey team so therefor have a statistical chance of getting him, there's actually a small but significant chance Calgary could sign him, as we have the top 6 position available, which was one of his needs, plus Brad Treliving is a notoriously thorough GM who is reportedly in on almost anything you can be in on.
Of course he likely won't, anyone will take that bet, but I also wouldn't be surprised if we end up being on of the teams making a strong pitch, and wouldn't be shocked (surprised, yes) if we got him.

Okay then, if you say so. I still put the odds at 0 or next to 0. Vesey isn't going to sign a very short-term contract, and Calgary isn't going to tie up the cap space long term.
I guess if being a NHL team is your requirement to get on the statistical odds board, then sure I'll up it to 0.05% chance.

Vesey has to sign an ELC. It will be two years regardless of who he signs with and with base salary plus bonuses

Two years because he's 23.

There's no long term or even high cap hit contract coming to him. He can only sign a max ELC at two years. You're a "dig your heels in the dirt" kind of poster so I suspect you'll next move the goalposts to "Well, he won't pick Calgary, no chance in hell, I'd still put it at 0% or close to it".
But the fact is, Calgary will very likely be making a strong pitch and we definitely have the space on the roster and the young skilled guys for him to play with which is what he was looking for.
So even if you move the goalposts to "Calgary's not a place he'd want to play" I'd be willing to bet there at least a significant, yet still admittedly not strong chance of him signing here.

The only 0% guarantee in the NHL is the Oilers missing the playoffs.

I'd say that's actually an 100% guarantee.

Was Vesey playing when Gaudreau was in the league? Think they know each other?

They were teammates on the USA World Jr Team in 2013 (Gold Medal).
Vesey is actually a couple months older than Johnny, even though he was drafted a year later (more than a year older than Jankowski too).
