Calgary has options to trade for a goaltender. If you put a guy like Bishop or Vaselevsky or Andersen on the Flames they get to the bubble and maybe sneak in. If the Flames youth progresses and develops nicely maybe they finish top 3 pacific. Goaltending isn't impossible to fix... especially if all you really need to improve is average.

Luckily there are better alternatives to trading a 6th overall pick for an average goaltender.

If Dallas gets to the Conference finals if we offer them 6 + Dallas 1st, + a 2nd could that get it done?
I agree with your reasoning, and it would be fantastic, but I don't think CBJ goes for it. The gap between Pully and Dubois seems too great.

I doubt the Flames will trade their first pick but I agree if they are going to trade their first pick it is to pick one of the Finns but we all know that will come with huge price. I also doubt the Jets or Blue Jackets will trade their first pick,

Really doubt Jarmo passes on a Finn.

@dissentowner (can't quote your post for some reason)

I don't think the Jackets would give up the #3 pick. Wasn't there a rumour that Kekalainen was investigating ways to get #2 and #3 to get both Finns? I think he's dead set on them.

No. If you think Columbus would trade 3 for 6 and some magic beans you must think John Davidson is as stupid as I am.

No chance.

And if brown is a #1 at 6'6" centre, he won't be available at 6.

Listen to their GM

They want a dman if somebody on their top 4 isn't there. It's confirmed by Dim Jim himself

So is Logan Brown a possibility for the Flames at #6 or is that just crazy talk?

Well considering the Oilers are taking Chychurn most likely and that says the Nucks are picking a D if they dont get one the top 4 makes me think they get one of Dubois/Tkachuk.

Top 4 for most is likely Matthews l Finns followed by Dubois/Tkachuk for forwards.

I think we will be looking at Nylander or a dman... Neither fit the flames needs, but they are assets that can be used directly or indirectly to address our needs...

Button is a huge fan, most lists have him a few spots back, he could be a late riser with what he did at u18s

Anyone else watching Craig Button's mock draft? He has the Canucks taking Logan Brown at 5 and us having Tkachuk at 6.

I wonder who they've got at #4, Dubois or Tkachuk?

Regardless, I think they get him, as I feel strongly that the Oilers will take a Dman.

He and Linden both said this week they are taking BPA, they wont take defenseman for sake of it

Also Benning's one saving grace with even his detractors so far has been his scouting/drafting

I hope the Flames keep their pick unless they move up. There are still solid options at 6 as opposed to below 8-9

Alex Kovalev. He could be one of the more purely skilled wingers in the league but he won't drag you to a cup or get you a ransom in a trade. Pure skilled wingers with average size are easy to trade for.

With a top 6 in a draft with a very strong top end we should be looking to get one of the hardest to find and most valuable commodities in the NHL which are:
-Top 3 defencemen
-Big, skilled top two line centres
-1st line powerforwards

Nylander is none of those. Purely skilled wingers with average size are an easy commodity to trade for.
