Can we talk about the Martial for Pogba substitution though?

I thought Pogba was pretty average tonight. Maybe you take Giroud off for Martial instead, but I don't see any big deal with the Pogba for Martial swap. That said both Griezmann and Pogba looked pretty pissed when subbed off so we'll have to see if there's any lingering issues there.

don't see an issue with the Pogba/Martial swap at all. Pogba wasn't very good today, Giroud had scored and Payet was their best player. So subbing off Pogba in exchange for another forward was the best option in that situation.

also, while everybody lauds Payet (rightfully so), let's not forget N'Golo Kante. The man is a machine.

He could end up being their most important player as he protects that back 4. That back line was a train wreck at various points trying to clear the ball

As a West Ham fan, I am right now!
I just hope Payet stays a hammer!

in the first half, did you see that touchline recovery, then sliding poke back to CB/Evra? Unreal effort, and touch.

I'm sorry Locke, dropping Milner is NOT indicative of sandbagging.
Re: Pogba, he sent a precision pass 60 yards to I believe Payet for a breakaway, but was called offside. That was class. I liked him defensively, but offensively his consistency wasn't there.

Well he wasn't that good he only had....
- The most passes made
- The most touches
- Highest completion rate of passes
- Most tackles
- Most interceptions
- Most distance covered
...nevermind. What an animal. He, like Payet, cannot be long for his current home.

Albania are in tough. Down 1-0 and now a first half ejection (2nd yellow for handball)

Yeah. Probably didn't matter much though, Albania is clearly the weaker team in the game anyway.
Switzerland looks pretty good.

???
Albania was controlling the game up until that red. Keeper's mistake led to the first goal.

I really can't agree, and the stats don't agree either.
Possession 58 vs. 42
Shots on target 3 vs 1
Shots 8 vs. 4
Plus Switzerland has notably more skilled players and IMO they were tactically clearly better. I doubt Albania gets a point in this tournament.

That's quite surprising, though I started watching 10 minutes in. Not sure if a lot of possession belonged to Switzerland in the first 10, but Albania seemed to be controlling possession for the latter part of the first.
Agreed that Switzerland certainly has more skilled players that can break down defenses much more than Albania. Albania just doesn't have any impact players really, but possession-wise, they look pretty good imo.

So in-between the first 10 minutes, and the last 8 minutes, Albania were very good.
I think if they had a natural goal-scoring striker, they could actually pose some problems for teams. They did beat France in a friendly.

They also beat Portugal in the qualifications. Just goes to show that even with more teams, this tournament doesn't have bad teams.
Which is why Finland never makes it.
