There is nothing more clutch than that. I was ok with losing that game when there is an opportunity for a 20 year old in our system to develop in a high pressure situation.

When Jooris comes back I hope they sit Byron for a game or two just to see if it can spark him like it did the others.

Paul Byron just needs to see the puck go in, not to be sat. Him and Russell have just had it rough this season. For Russell, it's acceptable since he's not a forward. Just maybe we need to try Byron on D beside Engelland. He'd have to learn the defensive coverages but I can see it working out.

Speaking of Dmen, I didn't mind the Smid/Engelland pairing tonight. They're going to have teams against which they struggle for sure, but the Sharks must not be one of them.

Byron has been getting a lot of stick from people around here lately, but there's a reason Hartley had him out on the ice with Monahan in OT. I don't want to see him in the pressbox any time soon.

Colborne: possibly the best game of his career. Great mitts on the goal and a difference maker all night.

Interesting seeing Shore scratched for Granlund, but the latter had an excellent game.

Most importantly: back in a playoff position for the time being. Going into this road trip I would have taken 5 points from the whole thing. We already have 6 from a possible 6. Anaheim/LA games will be tough, but there's not as much pressure if we drop points. Would be nice to end the Curse of the Honda Center, though...

Great game. That third period was a nail biter. I couldn't watch and post at the same time. Both teams had periods where they dominated and others where they went to sleep. Epic shift by Monahan on the game winner. I hope he realizes that where he needs to go to be successful!

I hope Treliving realizes he needs to make a deal of some of our forward depth for another quality blueliner. Make that deal and call up Wotherspoon so we can push two of Engelland, Diaz and Smid to the pressbox.

It's actually not obvious. It's still open for discussion and interpretation.
Perhaps in your opinion it's obvious, but it's not to everyone.

If the goalie who the goal was scored on thinks its fine and managed to move on from it I think its easy to put it behind us. I think this is the type of goal that the league was wanting to allow with regaurds to directing the puck with the skate going forward from the season on. Fact is if it was monahan's skate directing it past niemi to go ahead 3-2 we wouldn't be talking about the controversy, at least not to this extent. We won which is all that matters.

Agreed that the win is the big thing.
But people can still debate the merits of that goal, and be disappointed/not understand what counts and what doesn't.

I'm personally not a fan of Bouma playing in the top 6 with Monahan, each time it's attempted, Bouma just seems to be out of place. Much more effective playing a physical, energy role with guys like Bollig and Jooris. Obviously options are limited with Glencross out, but I'd maybe try Granlund on that line with Shore centering Raymond and Colborne, getting Bouma back on the 4th line and bumping Byron to the press box for a game or two.

Seeing some of the Monahan comparables, I like Toews but don't quite see the level of speed and puck skills with Sean. I've been thinking of Monahan as Patrice Bergeron. Other than draft position and being opposite shots, Bergeron jumped right into the NHL after being drafted (though more than 9 months younger) putting up modest point totals. He's a cerebral, defensive-minded center with good offensive instincts. Bergeron's second season was spend in the AHL due to the lockout, but came out huge with a 30 goal, 73 point third season. Monahan's trajectory isn't quite that steep, but he's noticeably improving at all aspects of the game rapidly. I would absolutely love if Sean Monahan became the kind of important cog Patrice Bergeron is for Boston.

To be fair, Hudler and Gaudreau have been putting up a majority of Calgary's points recently, and with the red hot Backlund centering them, I would counter with my top D pairing as much as I could too.

I think it is obvious. I'm not saying I have a problem with the new directives regarding goals like this. Simply stating it's obvious these are the types of goals the new directives are meant to address.
