I really didn't think Nash would be interested in playing for the Raptors just yet, but according a source in this article, it isn't completely out of the question. I figured Nash would want to take a run at a championship before possibly joining the Raps.

Being the new Team Canada GM (weird that it's a player, but that's a discussion for a different thread), I think he's probably more open to signing with the Raps now. He's shunned Canada for a few years now, to showboat at soccer games and other events, so perhaps now that he's seemingly running the show, he'll drive it home further by signing with the Raps. I guess he'd do it primarily for the same reason he took the Team Canada GM spot - to set himself up for life after playing - perhaps management? Personally, I still think he has enough game to give him a 4 year contract. Let's face it, Calderon will never have a higher value. Now is the time to deal him, or they'll never get fair value. Bayless IMO, stinks (said it from the start), so they may as well let him walk and get a solid vet backup PG. Perhaps packaging Calderon, Derozan, the presumably 8th overall can get the 1st, but that maybe a stretch. Having a star distributor is something the Raps have to splurge on, and Nash would be the one to do it for. Getting a high draft pick would be huge as well to build for now. Though a really boring year overall in the NBA, I'm hoping Colangelo works his magic this summer.

Nash said in his press conference that had he played during the summers for Team Canada his career would be over. His body just could not take that extra work load, we've seen the type of rest he needs during an NBA game and the punishment his body has gone through.

^ That's what he said, but how much rest do you really need? Your body recovers on its own, but you can't stop aging. It's a cop-out. Everyone and anyone knows he was upset at Canada brass for getting rid of Triano. It was his silent way of protesting.

Nash gave years and years to that program. He completely earned the right to say that he had enough, whatever the was.

^ Certainly every player has the "right" to say they had enough, but if a guy like Crosby at 25 said he had enough playing for Canada, would you have the same opinion? The point is moot, because he was simply showing his disapproval of Basketball Canada over Triano's firing. I don't have a problem with Nash the player, but I do have a problem with Nash as a Canadian representative.

If Crosby was the one bright spot for Canada and was going to wreck his body possibly making him less effective for the Penguins all for a lost cause and a group of guys running the show that you didn't like I think I would have the same opinion.

Nash playing for Canada to get beat by the real powers a little less than normal and wrecking his back isn't worth it. The Triano firing just made it that much easier for him to say no.

I'm happy with the pick considering what was left on the board at the time. BC has a lot of work to do with this roster though before the season starts.

Another queer pick from a queer GM. Guy has really done zilch in his tenure. Now the plan apparently is a 38 yr old PG and some other vet added to move back to being mediocre instead of outright stinkin. There really is just a pattern with teams that stink for decades --they just keep rolling through one incompetent manager after another.

Who still uses queer as some type of insult in 2012? At least try and update your smack talk a little bit. And if that 38 year old PG is Steve Nash, I'm all for it. Raptors can be a 6th-8th seed all they want, watching Steve Nash for 3 more years is fine by me.

Steve Nash would be an awesome upgrade at PG, but they'd really need another established scorer who can take those passes and sink them. Players that can create their own shot are hard to come by. I really don't hold out much hope for this team despite what Colangelo is saying.

It may not be the 'right' move for the franchise, but damn, Nash in a Raps Jersey would be absolutely awesome. Such a unique circumstance and opportunity that may never present itself again, across any sort of pro sports. It would be like Finland getting an NHL team and then signing Teemu Selanne.

I'd be glued to the TV for Raps games if this happened.

"There's positives to every situation," Nash said. "The Raptors would be one of those teams where you're probably not going there to win a championship in the next three years. For me it'd be going home to Canada, to a great city, and trying to help an organization move forward.
"I'm open to the positives of all of them. It'd be great if four or five contenders came after me and all offered me a deal, but the reality is I might not get that opportunity. So I'm going to look at every opportunity and Toronto will be one that I'll study as well and look at the opportunity for them to grow in the next three years and what kind of impact I can have on that team. And obviously from a community standpoint, it's a special place for me."
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/81...onger-home-run

Reports today have the Raptors offering him 12 million a season and a 5 man contingent for the Raptors set to be in Manhattan tomorrow to visit with him.

For someone who lives in Toronto, it would be amazing to have this happen. The ACC would be sold out every night, I can only imagine how much more popular the Raptors could even be with the chance of an NHL lockout. It be exciting to, because even at his age, Nash is not a shell of his former self and it would not just be a simple publicity stunt. Nash is right, he could really change the history of this franchise and help it grow.

Originally I wasn't a fan of the idea of Nash, I was hoping they'd put together a trade for Lowry. However, now I've switched, and am hoping that they do get Nash, because I'm worried that there's a plan B that might involve overpaying for Lin or Flynn or someone of that calibre.

I really hope Nash does not sign with the Raptors, only because I would like to see him win a championship.

The Lakers should be lining up to sign him, then figure out how to move Gasol and end up with Howard, and go with a 2 year window to win 1 more championship

"The Raptors will be pulling out all the stops. According to a source, Colangelo and the Raptors' party will present a video to Nash that includes a cameo by Wayne Gretzky, urging Nash to seize the chance to come back to Canada and do for basketball here what he did for hockey in Los Angeles when he went to play for the Kings in 1988"

http://www.sportsnet.ca/basketball/2...e_feels_right/

Nash has stated he's not going to chase a ring or sign with a team just for that reason. I don't think it will taint his legacy or make him any less of a player if he never does win a championship. I've never been fond of veterans signing with super teams at the end of their career, and the artificial feeling it has. Selfishly, I just want to watch Steve Nash play every night in front of a sold out crowd at the ACC, one of the greatest players of all time, and watch the Raptors become a must watch at sports bars around Canada.

No midnight meetings planned for Steve Nash. Sources say he's holding off on face-to-face chats w/reps from Raps & Knicks until later Sunday
As awesome as it would be to get Nash, it would be so crushing to have him go to New York and be in the Raptors division. I really think the Raptors have a shot though.....
