Wow, this is a week you won't want to remember that's for sure.
Good luck with everything, take care of your concussion.
Try to see it as an opportunity for some great changes for the future.

You've lost thousands of dollars on your investments in the last month.
Now you're done.

Coming from you Cow, that is a bad thing.
Captain, when your brain is recovered enough that youremember to use capital letters at the beginning of your sentences, you could always finish writing your book

Cap'n, is there a statute of limitations on the 'bad things come in threes' clause?
If not, you had #1 a couple of years ago with your heart scare. You're good to go now.

You're better off.
That job sucked. Your car was a piece of crap, and nothing like a good brain injury to take your mind off things.
Take a few days, watch some Dr. Phil, then go get you that new job! See if you can move to another city outside Alberta while you're at it. You can get NHL Center Ice, and watch 80 Flames games a year from your living room!

Thanks for all of the well wishes, and the PM's that I received. Things are getting better. I sent out 15 applications and received 10 interviews for next week.
It looks like the car is a total writeoff which is a shame as I did my last payment this weekand was hoping to go for a while without a car payment.
My head did clear up today which is nice as well.
Thanks again to all.

Just thought I'd throw an update in for anyone who has time on thier hands
After a month in a half of not working, and with my car problems, and going to all kinds of really dark and depressing places (Both in terms of perspective employers and personally), things finally went my way this week. I've accepted an offer, and bought a new car.
The reason why I've posted this is because I thought that there was one relevant point to all of this.
Its incredibly easy for human being to give up thier optimism and become depressed about the whole thing, and when your in a situation by yourself its amazing the dark places that your mind takes you. I had thoughts of living on the streets, and that nobody wanted to hire me, and one night after stupidly getting myself drunk by myself taking an exit.
People tell me all the time that your work isn't everything, and to some extent I agree, but the human instinct is to value yourself in society by the work that your do.
There's also that whole thought and fear that the money is going to run out and your going to be eating rats and sleeping in a dead van down by the river.
Like I said, dark places.
So whats the moral of the story, well its two fold. 1) Make sure that you always have a support structure behind you, whether its friends or family or whatever. If you don't think you can have those indepth discussions with your friends or family call the depression hotline or find a priest or find a counciler that can help you work through stuff.
I also read and see stories all the time about people that are one paycheque from the streets, fortunately I wasn't there, but I can see how it can happen. Build your own defence fund in case something happens to you, whether its firing or layoffs or the all powerfull screw you I quit moment. You should have a minimum of two months salary put away in case there are dark times ahead.
Oh and don't listen to that dark voice in your head, we all know your brain is trying to kill you at a deep level.
Also don't buy the staffing crisis crunch, there are tonnes of entry level jobs out there, but the minute you move to middle or upper salary levels things get a lot tougher in terms of opportunities or in terms of salary, or in terms of the length of the recruiting process.
I guess thats all, at the very least CalgaryPuck was there for funny stories, and arguments and other things to occupy me when I didn't feel like making another call or sending out a resume.

Good to hear you are back on your feet Crunch! And thanks for posting about your dark places - that'll help folks down the line.

Good news man. It's easy to go to those dark places when things seem to pile up on you but that's so you recognize when things start going good again.

Good to hear Captain. People always have to remember life is only semi-tough. All you can do is take it a day at a time.
I was in your shoes once getting divorced and then hit with a layoff. I had a lot of those same thoughts. Almost stopped brushing my teeth so I could fit in when I moved out to the street

Glad to hear everything is on the right track for yah Captain. Weird to hear that being more experienced makes it tougher to get work. Obliviously you must work in a different industry than me, because there is a huge shortage of intermediate and especially senior people in mine. Anyways hopes everything keeps going well for you.

Glad to her things are okay, Captain.
Thankfully you didn't listen to those dark voices in your head. Been down that road before and having a support system is what got me through the very dark times.
You gave some good solid advice and I hope members here take it to heart.
You have my utmost respect.
