Anyone ever see the crazy old Sihk (sp) who talks gibberish to himself as he walks down the halls of the university? He babbles about philosophy and religion, and throws his arms up in enlightenment when he comes across good ideas or theories, all the while completely oblivious to the hoardes of students who can't help but curiously look in bewilderment.
He also wears a beard net, which is the greatest thing I've seen on campus.

I think he might have finally graduated. Because I didn't see him last year.

Fast Forward had an article on him last year about his then-impending graduation. He told them he he's wasted enough time dicking around for seven years doing a psychology (or was it philosophy?) degree, and that now he had to face reality. It was a great article, but bittersweet because I was sad to see him go too. He was a true legend and he will never be duplicated.

Personally, I think we should take a collection and just buy him some new kicks. Those old Cons he has on now are only held together by the toe stitching. Just buy the shoes, walk in front of him, put them down, and keep walking. Might just have to do it a few times to give the hint. I see him several times a day and I always think about it.
I'd love to try and collect for a shower and such, but let's not push it.
(Not being cruel, it would just be better for all of us)

LOL yes! I almost forgot about this guy. Me and my buddy used to joke about following him around for when he finally did get his "eureka" moment solving the Universal Theorem.....and then stealing and publishing it as our own
And yes, I also remember sign guy, although I found him more annoying than anything. I don't think he was genuinely nutzo either, just wanted attention.

During first year, I asked him why he had the sign. And his reply was, "Just want to give everyone something to read. It's fun." Definitely not nutzo.
During last winter semester, some other guy was walking around with a sign. Definitely not the same.

Back in the 80's, I was in Victoria working the summers for my uncle at his marina, and I was down by the harbor with my brother when crazy-professor type guy cornered us and gave us some pamphlets describing in minute detail his system for replacing the alphabet with a new, better alphabet. He kept going on and on about how my shoes told him I was a good one to receive his message, although when I held them up to my ears later that day, I was unable to hear them speaking to me, which I suppose was all to the good.
The new alphabet was actually not crazy at all - he used Tolkien-style runes which corresponded one-to-one with phonemes, and the vowels which were represented by sets of dots and circles over the consonants, rather than kept in series as we use in Roman script. So the back two pages of the pamphlet had a long passage in normal text, and the same passage in his system, and his system took up about 60% of the space. I wish I would have kept it, it was pretty intriguing stuff, but I was afraid too much study of it might end up with me rapping with my runners as well.

I was about to post the exact same thing. Sign guy was a gimmick he used just to get attention. I used to think he was carrying signs to promote some cause or message, but I cant remember the last time I saw him with a sign that seemed to support anything.
That bold word is an invitation to the masters of the English language to correct me. Is that the word I'm looking for, as in "Ryan Smyth used to play with the Oilers, but he doesn't anymore"? Or is there some other word that I am using in everyday conversation and I don't know how to spell it?

That's Ed, he's been there for years at the North Hill Safeway. I used to work there, and he'd help me push carts in during the winter. He's a great guy, and I couldn't see North Hill Safeway without him. He's very family oriented, and there's nothing crazy about him, he just chooses to live life the way he does.
Make sure to give your quarters or carts to him, he really appreciates it.

coming back from SAIT on the train today I thought of this thread.
I got on the train and a homeless guy immediatly started asking a student that had gotten on if he "liked his face for a 5 time nose break fighter". Then he said "gimme six natives and i'll take down five of them!" he went on like this for a while and then said "hey i'm sorry about my breath but it's my breath and I reserve the right to it". Then he collected all the news papers on the train- even the ones people were still reading- to "keep the city clean". He finished with "I'm a street person and there ain't nothing I can do about it. They kicked me out after five days! and they wouldn't give me my damage....MY DAMAGE!!"
Then he exited the train, and threw all the recyclable newspapers into the garbage.

LOL. Reminds me of this guy on the trains awhile back. He asked people if they enjoyed riding the train, then told them he made this train and that he sold his design to make millions. Now he rides the trains for kicks.

I heard (second- or even third-hand) that he's actually a senior level math professor of some kind. Could be rumours, I'm not sure.
Sure is entertaining, though. Makes me wonder what he's thinking. He's definitely on another level of consciousness (higher or lower, I can't say).
