				 Birthday Cake - Hockey Figures

My son's 2nd birthday is on Saturday and he loves hockey at least as much as his daddy. My wife got the idea of decorating the cake like an hockey rink and putting little hockey figures on his cake. We are stuck though, as we don't know where to look or what exactly to look for.
I now enlist the help of thee powerful knowledge of CalgaryPuck. Help!

Look up cake decorators. I used to work in a small town IGA in the bakery and our cake decorator could do pretty much anything. Check out a grocery store that actually has a bakery and ask them.

Co-Op used to have a book of cakes in their bakery with all sorts of stuff you could order. I know a Flames symbol cake was in there, and what you're looking for may have been too.I'd check there

What you need is one of those old hockey games with all the guys on sliders. Take those guys off, make a cake in a baking pan and decorate it like a rink, complete with a flames logo at center ice.
Though, when I think about it, chances are that you'll only ever find TML and MTL for figures.

I'm just looking for the figures. My wife has all the icing to draw the ice and lines, we just want to get a couple of hockey figures to stick on top. We found some hockey figures for a table top hockey game, but we're not paying $20 for a 2yr olds birthday cake.
The backup plan is for me to draw the Flames logo at center ice... he'll recognize that and be just as pleased.

I'll checkout that cakeshop in Lethbridge, thanks for the suggestion rttr. I'm also in Calgary one day this week, so I'll do some looking around there too.

I found some little toy hockey figures at a dollar store awhile back. Maybe Wal mart or one of the other discount store would have them for cheap too.

Was just in Canuck Amusements today (37th st sw, just south of the Richmond road intersection (behind Safeway)) and they had amazing theme birthday party stuff. I didn't specifically see hockey as I was shopping for a 3 yr old girls party; but I did happen to see shelves filled with pirate stuff, army stuff, and of course Dora and Disney princesses.
Good chance they would have something. Maybe call before you make a special trip...249-6641, 3911 37 st sw. Look at that even a website! Thier name between www and .com

theres those little mini Mcfarlane figures that i think are about 5 bucks for a two pack of Iginla and Koivu. Of course, you would only have one single flame player.

If you go into a store that makes cakes, ie IGA or Safeway or something, they are usually willing to sell you just the decorations right from the bakery dept.
I bought "Digger" trucks for one of my boys homemade cakes, and they come sealed and "FOOD" grade...

We have made cakes with Mcfarlane figures before too. Toys R Us usually has a good supply of the mini's.

The best part of it is that after the cake is eaten the kid has a collectible toy to play with rather than a cruddy plastic cake topper.
