Looking for a good Gym DT - Calgarypuck Forums - The Unofficial Calgary Flames Fan Community

Hey all...I am looking to join a fitness club to attempt to get back into some semblance of shape. I live down on 14th ave and 7 st sw and dont own a vehicle so I need something fairly close.

I am close right now to join the Talismen Centre, but I just wanted to get some feedback....how do the facilities compare to other gyms in the area? I have also looked into Heavens, it is a bit pricey and that place seems to be more geared to class's where as I am looking for a large fitness centre, lots of free weights, lots of benches, lots of cardio equipment. I also really would like a Sauna, pool could be nice, but not needed.

I know there are a few other gyms in the area, can anyone recommend anything? BTW Cost is not a huge issue if I can find a place that provided everything I need and is within reasonable walking distance.

I've been going to Talisman for a couple years, and I think of the places downtown, it best fits what you need...but for alternatives I'd look at either the Banker's Hall club http://www.bankershallclub.com/facilities.htm or the Eau Clare Y.

Fountain Park in Gulf Canada square is an excellent gym. I was a member there for about 5 years. Relatively affordable, not nearly as busy as other gyms and they equipment is always up to date. Best gym I've ever been a member of by far.

Heavens bought Fountain Park and closed it/didn't renew the lease. It's too bad because it was a good club.

Yeah, actually Heavens is right across the road from work and would be perfect but I just dont feel the vibe I am looking for in that joint.

Thanks for the input boys, actually I just re-joined WHC today as a buddy got me first 4 months free on 1 year contract, I thought it was too good to pass up.

Ok....we have the Gym now. Anyone with good oppinions(or bad oppinions) on Leukic from Muscletech? Any of our fellow CP'ers consider themselves knowledgable on the supplement front?
