Did anyone see the story on The National last night about secondlife.com. It looks pretty cool.

They fell off the first page pretty quickly, so if you didn't stop by that day you wouldn't have noticed.

I've always thought it a bit strange that you hear stories about the RCMP recruiting in SecondLife, and countries opening up embassies there, but SecondLife seems to be not as popular as the commercial games like WOW.

No. Second life seems to be more of a social networking tool ala MySpace and Facebook. That allow people to interact with each other and such. The interesting part of it is the whole currency aspect. In that it allows people to live, work, make friends, etc, and take the money they make in-side the game, and convert it to US funds.

It's crazy that people are actually making an income from playing a game.
Maybe someone should start a secondlife ebay or amazon or something.

If you could set it so a bot could play the game, and open multiple accounts (illegal, and I know some people are sure to have already tried), then I might consider joining haha!

I have enough addictions on the computer already. eg/ CP

Making actual money is a new twist, though I assume that many, many more people spend money than make it, but from a social networking and/or game point of view it looked just like the SIMS but with worse graphics.

The biggest thing that stuck with me from the story, though, was a reminder that cerebral palsy is just a big, giant kick in the nuts

Difference there is that WoW is spread over 100s of servers. In Second life there are no restrictions who you interact with.

And that Adrianne Arsenault is better suited to a war-zone than to human interest stories.

But yeah, the cerebral palsy aspect was interesting. He seemed to communicate very well within Second Life, and nobody would probably realize that he had cerebral palsy were it not for the fact that he was very open about it. The second life environment seemed to have a very positive impact on his life.

I'm starting up thirdlife.com for people who can't become popular in second life.
