I have heard its believed it will be on-time. I always worry the concrete and structure is the easy stuff. The finishing always drags though it seems.

The new trend is downtown or downtown adjacent arenas, along with funds tied to "revitalization."

Oh, certainly, it's been that way for 20 years now. I was talking about way back when Ottawa built in Kanata or Phoenix built in Glendale.

Which I understand from a shared cost perspective, but doesn't a lot of the literature and research suggest that the 'revitalization' outcomes are in reality more limited than first thought?
(of note: not saying anything about the arena deal itself, it is what it is, more just wondering about the trends going forward)

Limited as they may be, probably better than the outskirts of town models in Ottawa and Phoenix.

My stupid Browns will move from lakeshore downtown, to a dome in the suburbs. No one wants that.

Heck the Bears’ new stadium might not even be in Illinois.

Football seems to be different. I guess because it's a limited schedule. Maybe also because pregame meetups are in the parking lots. The Cardinals are right beside the old arena in Glendale but they are fine there.

The Atlanta NHL bidders sure didn’t get the memo. Both proposals are WAY the hell out there. Very on-brand for that region mind you.

You say that like folks weren't complaining about parking the other day.

Ya for only 8 games a year putting it downtown seems crazy. Especially when it would kill tailgating.

I don't get it. I had a good parking spot included and was still probably better off on the train. Or walking from Bell. It could be a real hassle getting out.

Isn't having a stadium outside of the downtown core easier to get to, rather than bringing everyone into town? Is it about giving people somewhere to go after the game/event has finished?

Depends. If you put an arena out by, say, Cross Iron mall, you would need everyone to drive or you'd have to have shuttles. I never tried it when I used to go to Glendale, but transit to that arena would have been a real pain. Same for Ottawa/Kanata. Whereas most people can get to Victoria Park pretty easily. And people can literally walk from downtown.

They could always change the rink dimensions to 60 meters by 26 meters to get it built on time.

You also want to be central for weeknight games to make it easy for the corporate crowd to attend.

Yeah, downtown has a bunch of infrastructure already there from numerous parking and transit options within 15 mins of the arena. Plus downtown has lots of accommodation options and food options.

Widely panned for these reasons, Kanata was a total mistake.
Not that anyone learned from it. Given all these teams seeing cheap land and repeating history

As others have said NHL, MLB, NBA make sense to be in populated or easily accessible areas due to the sheer number of games and weekday events. NFL is different as they have 8 home games a year usually on weekends and rarely host concerts or other events.
