Alberta’s Smith says she took private flight on behalf of Saudi government

The premier and a few members of her staff had travelled to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in late October and early November to discuss potential collaborations on energy development, artificial intelligence and more.

The premier’s office had never discussed the flight publicly before but Smith confirmed it at a legislature committee meeting Tuesday in response to budget questions put to her by Opposition NDP leader Naheed Nenshi.

He also called on her to table in the legislature any advice she was given by the ethics commissioner on accepting the flight.

Nenshi said in a statement later Tuesday that he was disappointed that Smith “waved off questions about the appropriateness of accepting the flights.”

“I asked her twice to table her correspondence with the ethics commissioner and I expect her to do so.”

I agree. He has too much Calgary baggage (fairly or unfairly) and half the charisma of Rakhi.

No delays for ortho surgery if you want to pay for it. Family member badly needs shoulder replaced. 2 year wait in the public system. 3 weeks from now if they want to pay. The system is so broken. Private operating rooms all over the city staffed and ready if you've got the bucks. The rest of the population, tough luck.

The Smith Government was very, very eager to entice Grande Prairie to develop it's own police force. A challenge has arisen in that the current and past RCMP members are not interested in the front line positions... it may be a very green team working the streets

Did they change the MAID rules? Lots of folks are saying same day MAID. I assume that's just misinfo. When my mom did it, it was a beurocratic nightmare. Did they totally relax stuff in the past few years. She probably died two months earlier than necessary due to fear of becoming incapacitated. Did not seem willy nilly at all .

Self proclaimed Libertarian continues to legislate how Albertans can live...and now die, too. I'm not convinced she fully understands what being a Libertarian means, but then, she says a lot of things she doesn't understand.


For now, I guess dogs still have more rights than people, and she's determined to keep it that way. Chalk up another win for the Christofascists, I guess.

I think so, but there are too many people that complain about Spendshi, and I don’t think he can overcome that.

NDP needs to win over half of Calgary ridings and all of Edmonton.
