Starting your child in Hockey

Lots of great advice in here and the only thing I’d add is get proper fitting and decent skates. The amount of kids I’ve coached in the last few years that have skates that are just not functional is crazy. They don’t have to be brand new and they don’t have to be expensive. I had two girls on our ringette team this year that had skates with pretty much zero ankle support, so tight turns or stops were not particularly easy for them. Also had a kid on our U7 hockey team whose tendon guards were completely flipped over and offered no support or protection.

Just a quick update - He got a spot in the Bow River Bruins program! He's super excited!

That's great! One of my kids went through Bow River. At the time they were awesome in that their set times for Timbits were reasonable... 4:30 on the weekday and 8am on the weekends. No early mornings so the kids weren't hating the early morning times.
