Max Curren, a 19 year old center with 1.32 points per game in the WHL....likely doesn't even crack our top ten prospects. That's incredible.
And the Flames are sitting on 8 picks in the first 3 rounds of the 2026 draft, including one that is likely going to be top 5.
By far the deepest prospect pool the Flames have ever had. The post Iggy rebuild wasn't even in the ballpark prospect wise.
probably true, though - in addition to all of the guys who subsequently busted, I think most if not all of Joe Nieuwendyk, Brett Hull, Gary Suter, Gary Roberts, Brian Bradley, Stu Grimson, Mike Vernon, Perry Berezan, Paul Ranheim, Joel Otto, Mark Lamb, Tim Sweeney would have been eligible for the Calgarypuck Summer of 85 fanzine prospect pool if it existed

Yea, that rebuild was never really given a chance. First sign of success and they started trading away first round picks instead of sticking it out for another couple of years. Glad to see that it's being done the right way this time, at least so far.

Hamilton trade at least lined up with the young core. The hamonic trade was ridiculous

That rebuild was an epic failure because Jay Feaster is a terrible GM, particularly so with trades. Iggy and JBo trades were key pieces that could’ve kickstarted a rebuild with a competent GM. Instead we got:
Iggy <-> Agostino, Hanowski & a 1st round pick (Poirier)
Bouwmeester <-> Cundari, Berra & a 1st round pick (Klimchuk)
If Colorado meet Edmonton in the first round, I hope Naz gives a shoutout to us Flames fans and saying something like, " you know I can't let the Oilers win" after they eliminate the Pigs.
Conroy did right by Naz, the Flames, and the Avalanche.
That’s some general manager excellence right there.
That kind of stuff is the best PR the Flames can get, being endorsed like that from a respected veteran player. Well done Craig, and props to Kadri for making sure people know.

And ownership too.
The Flames take care of their own. They have to a fault. Players and agents know it. It’s why Tanev and Markstrom came here. Coleman and Kadri too. Hasn’t helped as much as we’d like the past few years but the new building will help that immensely too.
Andersson though got to go where he wanted. Hanifin. Markstrom. The return for Conroy was good for Kadri but the same gripes that some here have had for letting players dictate where they want to go and handcuffing the Flames, is the same thing that happened here. Different only because I think the Avs know exactly what they are getting, an arms race, pressure from McKinnion etc, and were willing to pay the high price.

Yeah it sounds like there may have been legit competition for his services which certainly helped, assuming Kadri was fine to go to Montreal as well.
So that helped the price that Colorado had to pay.
And not saying the Flames being accommodating to players through the last years have been a problem. At some point that sort of handling business that way by the Flames will pay off with agents and players in deciding to come here over somewhere else.
Players loved to come here under Sutter to be cause there was no BS and he protected his players from rumors and speculation and insiders. Treliving to a point too, which is why a lot of the trades weren’t leaked in advance.
