At the end of the day, it didn't matter because his waiver was supposedly required anyway. Which means the Avs were on his list. Which to me means he was pretty strategic in its construction.

For all the bad talk people have about our ownership, the Flames being a classy organization that generally treats players well has been consistent through many management changes.
Conny seems like a real gem in this though.

Has anyone run the numbers for Colorado's playoff cap team? Can they dress their most desirable lineup and remain within the cap? (CPers, that is; I'll assume that Colorade mgmt has)

Pukpedia has them at right around the $95.5m cap when you remove the three lowest salaried forwards and lowest salaried defender. So they should be able to dress everyone.
I’m pretty interested to see what happens with Olofsson. Could bring back another 2nd next deadline or at least a 3rd if he gets a decent amount of ice and power play time. It’ll be really interesting to see how he performs in Huska’s system.

Olofsson is UFA after this season. If they like what they see, maybe he gets a short extension, but I think it's more likely that he becomes a free agent.

Olofsson is a pending UFA. I do wonder if they had an extra day if they would have tried to flip him. Just not enough time to shop him around.

Olofsson's contract expires after this season; the Flames aren't getting anything for him unless they re-sign him. I believe that is doubtful.

He hasnt signed an ELC, .and looking into it I found this article from Colorado that claims his rights expire after this season, and he's already declared for UMass next season.
https://www.milehighhockey.com/prosp...-elc-decisions
|
When he declared he was going to the NCAA, his rights should have converted from a "junior" draft pick under the CBA to a "college" draft pick (we saw that will players like Lipinski this year). This would extend his rights to at least June 1, 2028 (4 years after he was drafted). However, if he remains in college beyond June 1, 2028, the Flames would own his rights either until 30 days after he declares he's leaving college, or August 15, 2030 if he plays all 4 years.
Unless he really struggles in college, I doubt he'll play all 4 years and will likely sign after one or two college seasons.

Those guys brought the necessary swagger and attitude and drive.
Couldn't have won without it.

Secondary. Neither guy is successful without Barkov.

Yeah the guy who scored two OT winners and the series winner (with 4 seconds left) in the Conference Finals meant nothing to the team.

Did I say "meant nothing to the team"?
I said the keys to Florida's success and rise from "joke" status were Barkov and Bobrovsky.

No, they were still "joke status" when they won the President's Trophy and got swept by Tampa in the playoffs.
Then they got the guy who turned their franchise around. Not just in my words... in the words of the players, coaches, management and many, many, many, many people in the hockey world.

Tkachuk and Bennett can't play their games without Barkov.
Be a Tkachuk fanboy all you want. He's an important player for them. He's not the key to their success. As far as "turning their franchise around', you realize they were first in the league the year before he got there, right? He didn't win anything until he played with Barkov and Bobrovsky.

Are you saying that they could have had anybody beside Barkov and won the cup?

Bob is generally given more credit than he should get. Not that he wasn't important, but he has been the biggest beneficiary of the system that Maurice has installed in Florida. You can just look at his numbers before and after Maurice came in.
Barkov and Tkachuk are the biggest, most important pieces on that team.

LOL. After reading all the doom and gloom posts for the last 3 months about how we have to make these trades ASAP, and how it was idiotic to leave our players in the lineup, let alone not to be trading them for pennies on the dollar just to get them off our roster.... It's very refreshing to see you do a 180 flip in perspective! Welcome to the bright side!
