Positive - flames continue to sell off and rebuild.

I think this is one of Conroy poorer trades. Maata and the prospect are meh. So it's really 3 second round picks. If uta came calling and approached - I think Conroy could of got more.

Reminds me when the Flames traded Kent Nilsson for two second round picks. That worked out pretty well.

I mean nice pull, but does it really remind you of that, cause seems not at all the same to me?

If he did trade Kadri, and with Weegs now gone, if the Huby injury goes career south, which it has a decent chance of doing, the entire structure of the flames cap will have shifted in 3 years.

Nice work Conny!

If the Weegar we saw this year is the Weegar going forward then this is highway robbery, but if he rebounds and plays like he did the last 2 years then we can say Conroy should of waited until next season before doing a trade. Time will tell.

Three 2nd round picks in 2026 is a home run return. I'm surprised at some of the reactions.

Those 3 picks are worth a mid 1st round pick.

In: The currently-projected 35th, 47th and 50th overall picks in this year's draft.

On a team with zero offensive talent and zero offensive superstar F prospects, this is the kind of package everyone is happy to receive for our best players?

Traded our best defenceman on a very team-friendly contract to a playoff team entering their window of contention... a team with a plethora of young superstar forwards already on their roster and a pile of superstar forward prospects waiting in the wings... and we didn't come away with a single one of them. Instead, we get yet another veteran D to fill the void of the outgoing player, longshot prospect with maybe a third-line ceiling and three longshot draft picks.

Since 1963, only 313 players drafted in the second round have scored at least 100 points in their career. 313 players in 63 years of drafting. Only 69 players have scored 500 points. Only 8 players drafted in the second round have played 1000 NHL games.

...and this is what we're calling a GOOD/PRODUCTIVE/CONTENDER-BUILDING rebuild.

Anyway. Deadline's not here yet.
Since 1963 amongst picks 18-32 there have only been 265 players with 100+ points, there has only been 64 players with 500+ points. So less than the 2nd rounds picks and a 1st in that range would have only got us one player whereas 3 picks in the second round gives us 3 chances to get that player. Not like your odds are significantly higher in picks 18-32.

Trying to catch up so sorry if it's already been mentioned but

35 + 45 + 47 in draft pick value is equal to pick #16 in the draft.

Hoping they have some Wiebe insight on the prospect, and they have to carry a salary for 3 years but that's a solid 1st round pick equivelant.

the 2nds are from 2 non playoff teams and a Wildcard team...better than most seconds you get in deadline deals

You got to remember that Flames are rebuilding and not trying to acquire the best player in this moment. When you apply that criteria, it’s easy to say that Utah won. Conroy is following a plan that he believes in and I’m happy to let him continue to sell assets to build a better version of this team down the road.

For those of us under 50 could you remind us what who we drafted with those? Was it Joe with one?

I don't think this is a good return.. It's not terrible, but I think the Mammoth win this trade pretty easily.

Weegar would have to have a major bounce back

Home run is way too strong.

For me the rumoured Parayko return is a home run.

If Parayko gets Mrkta + 1st then this feels light to me, the divide between the two isn't that big.

Even the Carlo trade from last year. 1st + Minten + 4th feels somewhat close to this return and Weegar is way better than Carlo.

I would love to know what San Jose or Detroit would have offered. Because this seems like a strong return if your think Weegar won't bounce back and you're just trying to shed the contract.

But light for a guy who could is a top 30 dman producer at 5v5 the last 3 seasons.

Very similar, Markstom had fallen off big time but the media doesn't really follow the Flames closely

Really good trade here by Connie. 3 top 50 picks in this draft opens up a lot of different options for this team going forward.

Gonna miss Weegs. Dude's having a tough year but he cares so much and wears his heart on his sleeve. Guy was all in from the second he was traded here and I appreciate the crap out of that.
