That feels average but probably what can be expected. Probably could expect something similar from Tampa for Coleman (perhaps O’Reilly + 2026 2nd). Comes down to who the Flames see as the better player between O’Reilly and Hemming.

Wonder if Calgary added a pick and Hanley would they be able to pry Kapanen from MTL along with Xhekaj. Hanley is relatively solid defensively and Xhekaj can have his moments. Laine is washed, there isn’t anything left there, no one is taking his full cap without getting something attached. Hanley would be a nice place holder for them until Reinbacher makes the jump.

For 50% that is not nearly enough.

As long as they trade Coleman and Kadri before the deadline and can get a combined return of a 1st + 2nd + 3rd + B-level prospect (eg Hemming) then I’ll be happy with thw trade. Anything beyond that would be gravy.

I think it was rumored yesterday that Ross Colton would come to CGY in a Kadri deal alleviating over 50 percent of Kadris cap hit.

Still think the retention number on Kadri will be $2M.

$6M cost to the Flames and a $5M cap hit feels more palatable than 50%.

But with that much retention I'd want the equivalent of 2 1st round picks back, considering that's what Nelson got with less retention in return.
