I have never thought the lottery is rigged but if we win it and get first overall, I'll change my tune.

Yup, that's how I've seen it.
It's never felt like a cohesive group, where everyone is valued for the role they play.
There's "the guys" and then everyone else is just there and expected to default to "the guys" at every opportunity.
Terrible culture. It seems to follow McD around because I felt that this olympics too.

I’d imagine a 2 would be the minimum to take on that contract for another year. Probably get more they seem desperate. I’m all for exploiting the oilers even though I don’t think we will trade with them

IDK why reddit is pushing the Oilers on me, but looks like their 1st rounder is in play. Would be hilarious if they trade their 1st and miss. NO GOOD.
[Get Yer’ Back Podcast] 27:20 Bob Stauffer says Oilers are targeting a 3C, they are willing to move a 2027 1st RD pick for a player who is a right shot, who can play centre, on an Eastern Conference team (not Toronto). He mentions the player is in the 2.5M-3.5M salary range.

We will know when the NYR inevitably win the lottery.

Haven't looked up names, going off the top of my head so I don't know salaries even:
Evan Rodrigues, Kirby Dach, Nick Dowd, Dawson Mercer, Charlie Coyle, Cody Glass, Claude Giroux? Any of those in that range?
Some of them like Glass they wouldn't trade a 1st for (hopefully).
EDIT: Nic Roy is rumored but is on Toronto so that takes that out.

Sharks fan commented on the on /r/hockey thread that if they trade their 27 1st then the Sharks get their 26 1st unprotected? True?

If you trade a pick with protection, and then trade the fallback pick away, you trade away the trade protection.

The Flames can't be the only team tempted by the 2028 Oilers 1st. The Post Mcadavid era picks will be juicy.

Evan Rodrigues makes a lot of sense. Florida was rumoured to be looking to move him in the offseason for cap compliance reasons. Now that they're more or less out of it, might as well try and get some assets for next year's run.
He'd be a good pickup for Edmonton as a 3rd line C and has an extra year on his deal.
$3m salary.

Would you trade a 1st round pick for him though?

Edmonton would.
He's a known playoff warrior. Steps up significantly. Basically very similar to Coleman but at centre. And I think Coleman gets a 1st all day long at trade deadlines.

I could see Edmonton trading Mangiapane + 2027 1st (top 10 protected) for Roy from Toronto. Mangiapane would normally cost a 2nd to dump his salary. Add in getting a decent 3rd line center and that bumps it up to a 1st.

I am so confused by the Oilers need of a third line center.
They have McDavid, Draisaitl, RNH, Roslovic, and Henrique as centers on that team.
What they actually need is a good winger to play with 29 - so maybe they don't have to load up 29 and 97 all the time.
RNH - McDavid - Hyman
Podkolizin - Draisaitl - Kapanen
Frederic - Roslovic - Savoie
Lazar - Henrique - Samanski
The need obviously looks like a top 6 winger that would actually give 29 some help, they have 4 top 6 forwards on that team and that's the problem.
But sure go spend a premium on a bottom 6 center.

It's Tuesday. Teams will make more moves the closer it gets to Friday 3 pm Eastern.
For example, Minnesota has put in an offer on Trocheck and the Rangers have told them to wait and see if they get a better offer.

If Anaheim is looking for a topRD, and its a sellers market for that position, I will happily revive my Weegar for McQueen suggestion.

Yes, but they don't have the cap space, or assets, to acquire a top 6 winger. So they have choice but to bump up the guys they have, and go buy something they can afford.
