Would be a shock to McDavid playing for the Panthers. They would probably make him eat last at the lunches and make him pick up pucks with the rookies who haven’t won anything yet.

sharks are 4 points back with 3 games in hand. I think Oilers brass are panicking as teams start to pass them with their games in hand.

I will say that the NHL scheduler has really made it interesting with the Oilers down the stretch. out of their 20 games, 10 are against teams they are jostling with in the standings (Vegas x3, SJ x2, Utah x2, LA x1 Anaheim X1, and Seattle x1). That is a lot of 4 point games down the stretch.

But again this 2 year deal was more for acquiring team flexibility rather than saving the Oilers money.

His 2 year deal at a cap friendly amount was to make his trading to a team easier. Him and the Oilers are on the same page with how this is going to play out, and have generally for a while.

The trade return isn’t going to floor anyone. Decent players have NMCs and those that have waived to go to Edmonton wasn’t for the Waterpark it was to play with McDavid, and the league is littered with players that tried that and then got out (Mangipane is next).
You forgot a zero on your percentage.

My worry is those idiots always turn it on in March.

More likely they are playing teams that have given up and are using their minor leaguers to finish the season

I don't think anyone would normally do them a favour and take Mangiapane off their hands, but the Oilers might be desperate enough to do something stupid in the form of overpayment.

Funny enough, out of there 20 games remaining, only 3 are being played with teams I would classify as done for the year (STL, Chicago, and Vancouver).

As of today the vast majority have the same or more points or playing for something.

Ottawa Senators
Carolina Hurricanes
@Vegas Golden Knights
@Colorado Avalanche
@Dallas Stars
@St. Louis Blues
Nashville Predators
San Jose Sharks
Florida Panthers
Tampa Bay Lightning
@Utah Mammoth
@Vegas Golden Knights
Anaheim Ducks
Seattle Kraken
Chicago Blackhawks
Vegas Golden Knights
@Utah Mammoth
@San Jose Sharks
@Los Angeles Kings
Colorado Avalanche
Vancouver Canucks

Thanks for doing the homework on that. Maybe if panic sets in they could find themselves out of the playoffs by the end.

If they lose to Ottawa tonight, then I can see full panic mode as they don't play until the 6th, which is trade deadline day. It will be multiple days of panic articles. Add a win by SJ and LA and now they enter the deadline day with multiple teams on their heels with games in hand.

There is a scenario where after their game on the 6th they are outside the playoffs if they lose to both Ottawa and Carolina coupled with SJ beating Montreal and St. Louis.

That's plenty of time for a corporate lending lawyer to do their work.

Looking at those remaining games they could have a hard time going 0.500 over that stretch.
