"Armed Compound with Guardhouses" is a lot different than a 'House.'
Do you have a spotlight to prevent prisoners from escaping?

With the amount of light, we don't need a spot light, anyone who walks outside is instantly blinded, and blind people are easy to catch.

This will be the last year clocks spring forward after the B.C. government announced Monday it was making daylight time permanent.
The change will take effect on Sunday, when clocks move ahead an hour. Permanent daylight time will mean that the typical falling back of clocks by an hour in November will not take place.
“Every parent knows that changing clocks twice a year causes a significant amount of chaos on already busy lives. British Columbians have been clear that seasonal time changes do not work for them,” Premier David Eby said in a statement. “This decision isn’t just about clocks. It’s about making life easier for families, reducing disruptions for businesses and supporting a stable, thriving economy.”
The announcement comes seven years after the B.C. government passed legislation allowing it to end the twice-yearly time changes.
The 2019 legislation followed a public consultation that found 93 per cent of British Columbians were in favour of moving to permanent “daylight saving time,” but over half of British Columbians also said they would prefer to wait until the U.S. followed suit.

If Dumbnelle Smith and co want to abolish daylight savings, they'd better keep us in the sprung ahead time.
No way am I sacrificing those 10pm sunsets in June for 4:20 am sunrises

Except, since you're the only ones doing it, it will do none of those things for anyone who deals with any sort of scheduling outside of BC.
Congratulations, you get to experience all of the annoyances of changing your clocks with the added inconvenience of trying to remember if you're on the same time as the rest of the west coast this week, or are you on the same time as Alberta?

Long summer nights are nice, but winter mornings would become very dark, and the sun wouldn't rise until 9:39 in Calgary. That's not natural. There are some significant concerns around health, sleep, and even the safety of kids walking to school.

Nice, I like it. Hopefully Alberta follows soon.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's enough of a backlash by people who understand how the world works that they backtrack on it before November and they keep the status quo.

Personally, I would leave the time as it is now. It’s a fine balance. And we keep the hour.

I don't care which one they pick. Just stop switching. Having young kids just made me hate the switching and I can't sleep in anymore so lighter mornings is fine.

How do any of the people who constantly bitch about an hour time change ever go on a vacation where they need to switch to a different timezone and/or have jetlag? Or is that a 1st world problem?

There is a case study from the 1970s where this was tried in the US briefly. It was short-lived because permanent daylight time is great in the summer, but not so much in the winter.

Of course those experts are just shilling for big clock. Give us 10pm golf!

However, America tried this before — and the country hated it. In the early 1970s, America was facing an energy crisis so the government tried an experiment.
|
Quote:
"It became very unpopular very quickly," he told NPR.
Americans do not like changing their clocks, but they disliked even more going to work and school in the dark for months — the price the nation had to pay for more sunlight in winter evenings.
|
Quote:
Advocates for permanent daylight saving time include Steve Calandrillo, a professor at the University of Washington law school. He testified before a recent House subcommittee that it would do everything from save lives to reduce crime, conserve energy, improve health and boost the economy. His motto: "Darkness kills, sunshine saves."
Dr. Beth Malow, a neurologist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, also testified. She agreed that it would be healthier for Americans to stop changing their clocks, but she thinks permanent standard time is a better choice.
"It's called standard time because ST lines up with our natural, biological rhythms," she said. Permanent standard time with sunnier mornings and darker evenings would be healthier, especially for front-line workers and school students with early waking hours.

The best answer, according to Prerau, is to do nothing at all. The current system that begin in 2007 of starting daylight saving time in March and ending it in November, is the product of decades of study and compromise.

BC is a gray gloomy hellhole all winter anyway, so it probably won't be noticed.

One would hope there are enough people that understand how the world works, but lately I don't see evidence there are many left.

Switching to a single time was always a dumb idea in Canadian latitudes, and it's about 10x dumber when no one else on the continent is doing the same.
I mean, I guess places like Saskatchewan and Arizona manage without time changes, but 9am sunrises in the winter aren't particularly appealing and I can't imagine whatever meagre health benefits you get around the date of the time change overcome the fact that people are going to be commuting more in the dark.

Add 10 minutes the first of every month Jan-June, then subtract 10 minutes the first of every month July-Dec. Monthly so it's easier to remember. And a 10 minute change is way easier to adjust to than a full hour. Don't know why we didn't do it this way to begin with.
