close to 27m per year for Bouchard/Nurse/Walman. And they wonder why they haven't been able to build a winner around McDavid and Draisaitl.

Like, seriously. I'd love the chance to be an NHL GM, even with that decrepit organization, because, really, could any of us DO any worse? I think not. Take the most unglued, uninformed poster on this board you know, and I'm certain they could GM their way out of a wet paper bag.

Wasn't there rumours last season that Treliving was interested in Mangiapane? Things could've changed but I could also see a world where the Leafs take on a contract like his for picks, then package their own scraps for more picks. Treliving has such an uphill battle that he alone created.

Fabbri had so much potential before the injuries, a shame.

He didn't create that mess all by himself. The Leafs were a badly constructed team when Treliving got there. Over half their cap was tied up in the big four forwards, the defence was terrible, and Shanahan forbade him to trade any of the big four when he got there.
He has made a bad situation worse, but that was merely the turd on top of the #### sundae.

Mangiapane's entitlement is crazy. In 2023-2024 he was rumored to be unhappy with his ice time and opportunity while he was stapled to Backlund-Coleman. At least back then he was still a 40 point player.
Now in Edmonton he's been sulking because he expected to play with McDavid. I would hope someone tells him hey your continued NHL career is not a sure thing.

Not really. They were never higher than 2nd in the Atlantic Division (though 1st in the North Division in the weird Covid year), and had won a total of one playoff round since 2004, when Treliving got there in 2023.
The Leafs continued on roughly the same level for Treliving's first two years there, until Marner exercised his right to walk. I don't think anything could have prevented that, and Marner refused to be traded even as a rental until he had played out the last year of his contract. The team was destined to take a tumble when that happened.
Treliving has done a very bad job of trying to compensate for the loss of Marner, but he did not walk into a good situation.

My favourite thing about Treliving going to Toronto was how many fans and people in the media were like, sure he made some mistakes in Calgary, but that means he learned from them and won't repeat them in Toronto. Then he let's Marner basically walk for effectively nothing. Granted he got one minor asset back, but nothing consequential.

Oilers clearing cap space to do something stupid at the deadline.
I like Mangiapane but he is looking like a one season wonder. Good on him to get paid and it was a great move by the Flames to get a 2nd for him.

I believe Marner had decided to walk before Treliving ever got there. He earned that right. That's why it's called free agency.

It's funny how there was always this rumor about him being constrained by ownership. It turns out that maybe Edwards watching over his shoulder was a necessary thing because with free reign all he does is Hamonic trades over and over.

Pretty sure Mangiapane will clear waivers today.

I feel like Mangoes could still have a versteeg like career. That is always who he reminded me of. Obviously flounders with the oilers but I bet he could get 15-20g on the third line somewhere like Carolina.
