Draft Pick

I saw on an earlier post here a couple months ago about Coleman to T Bay and the hope would be Connor Geekie, the more I look at this kid the more I think this would be a great trade for us with some other moving parts.
Geekie and a second for Coleman 50% retained this year and next 6-4 C who plays all forward positions and 21 probably more of 3rd line Centre maybe 2nd but certainly fits in what we are doing here

We're not getting an 11th overall, 6'4" 21-year old centre with high potential for 34-year-old winger Blake Coleman, let along including Tampa including a 2nd. I'm a huge Blake Coleman fan, but... no.

Without immediate 1sts, this is what TBL will need to offer. Geekie or SOR + a 3rd/2nd depending on negotiations. Coleman is an absolute dawg and has won it all with them before. You best believe Cooper is all over a Coleman acquisition. It lessens the minutes and burden on the top 6 defensive responsibilities.

Friedman did say that someone "poured cold water" on Coleman to Tampa this week. Didn't provide details.

The Wild are considered to be the favourite to land Trocheck according to the Athletic though the question is if Guerin is willing to part with more assets after the QH trade.

Agree its a stretch, but if we look at it as Geekie is the target and Coleman is the main asset we have to offer, what would we have to add?

Don't get me wrong, I would love Geekie on this team - just what we need. I just don't think Coleman alone is the piece that lands us that asset.
This is a tough one. I would think, at the very least, Coleman and Calgary's 2026 2nd (still a high pick) would have to be involved at least from our end (TB does not have a first this year, Calgary's 2nd is relatively close to what would have been their first). Then I dunno - you hope that Brisebois pulls the trigger assuming that's just the price around the deadline. Again, this would be a very tough one to navigate IMO.

Wild don't have a ton of big prospects but some intriguing guys like Kiviharju, Soini, and Benak. Stramel appears to have rebounded a bit I think. They have their own 1sts after this year.

He's the player to watch tonight, as posted by the Flames. Seems like he won't be held out.

Kent Johnson healthy scratch. Should Flames be in on him?

100%
He had 56pts in 68 games last year, and is now 18pts in 56 games this year, playing wing on the second line for a bunch of it, but only 11 to 12 minutes a night. He was drafted as a centre, and this is the third year that he hasn't played at all at centre.
The knock against him is that he is tall, but with a slight frame. No defensive deficiencies, but not physical.
At the right price, put him in as a 3rd line centre between Klapka and Popisil, and just let him play. Really talented and 23 years old. Columbus is ruining him if he stays.

Wild feel like the perfect fit for trochek.
Kings feel perfect for Kadri
Detroit feels perfect for Weegar
Dallas and Coleman feel destined to unite.

If anything for this deadline, I hope the GMs that are sitting in the sidelines waiting for more sellers get burned badly. GMs like Yzerman and Nill that play it too conservative need to get left with their pants around their ankles while their competition bounces them in round one. And hopefully lose their jobs. And get replaced with cowboys.
Admire GMs like Guerin who belly up to the bar and take risks. Yzerman sits on his hands and does stupid things like Myers for a 2nd which really does eff all to improve his team.

I'd love to see Kent Johnson on the Flames. A little more flash is never bad.

Yzerman is patient. He won’t push in until his team is consistently a playoff team and a cup contender. This isn’t the year for him to make the big play unless he can get a guy with term that fits his window.
Criticizing Nill for not making a big play is comical. They pushed most of their assets in last year for Rantanen and Granlund. What’s he left to trade!?
Guerin is probably the worst GM of the bunch. Guy was sheltered from signing dumb UFA contracts or making big trades becuase he was handcuffed by the two big buy-outs for his first few years. He’s now in a position to spend because of it, and is certainly spending. Could pay off, but it’s a little soon to use him as the example.

Seravalli’s new top 50 trade board
Coleman at #4
Kadri at #14
Weegar at #26
Whitecloud at #29
Trocheck at #1, ROR at #45

The action has yet to heat up on most fronts, with plenty of tire kicking, but sources indicate few hard offers being made heading into the weekend. There is a long list of options available and GMs are weighing acquisition cost, team needs and they're watching a real-time crystallization of the standings as teams slide in and out of the playoff race with a few games of evaluation left.
"We're just trying to get through the weekend and re-evaluate," one GM said on Saturday. That seems to be a common refrain.

Edit: The newest 32 thoughts makes things sound really bad for our beloved Flames. Friedman says too many sellers, not enough buyers. Prices are gonna be driven down. And sellers may get stuck and not be able to sell players.

Tell Dylan Larkin that Yzerman is patient. He sat on his hands last deadline and pissed off his #1 C by not doing anything. Getting John Gibson and Tyler Myers is marginal help at best.
Yeah, thought about Dallas and Rantanen and Nill did put it out there last year. But he’s low balled us on Tanev and didn’t play ball on Andersson despite needing an obvious need on rhd. I hope that comes back to bite him. He’s playing it cautious again and worried about spending futures, when he really doesn’t have to worry about futures as he has a built in advantage with his team in a low tax state and able to attract prime talent in free agency as a result.
Guerin took big risks getting Parise and Suter off the books. And was able to get the second best defenseman in the league (while Yzerman watched him do it). We as fans should applaud this approach as it makes the game fun. GMs who are Riverboat gamblers and gunslingers making deals creates excitement. Having dull GMs like Yzerman and Cheveldayoff is bad for the game.
