Sportsnet rumour roundup:

Myers could consider other options
Wild, Kings, Penguins in on Trochek
Bobrovsky could be in play as he has an expiring contract
Oilers interested in OEL
Buffalo leaning toward keeping Tuch
Habs interested in O'Reilly, have given Laine permission to find a team
Flames going to be patient

Quote:
The Calgary Flames have already dealt one star defenceman this season, and the club appears to have a couple more it could move. After acquiring Whitecloud in the deal that sent Andersson to Vegas, some speculated the Flames could flip the blue-liner for more assets. But it appears he could be sticking with the Albertan club.

“Another team told me that they heard Whitecloud is not in a hurry to get out of there. … That doesn’t mean that he doesn’t get traded. It just means that the Flames are happy to have players who are happy there, and they’re not motivated to move him,” Friedman said. “If they get a great offer, look out.”

There’s also blue-liner MacKenzie Weegar for GM Craig Conroy to consider. And up front, proven veterans Nazem Kadri and Blake Coleman. The issue, per Friedman, is the number of similar options on the market.

“I think people love Kadri the player — I’m not sure they’re crazy about the term. Also, there are other centres. There’s Trocheck, there’s O’Reilly, there’s other centres available. So, while I do think people like Kadri the player, between the age and the term, I think that’s the challenge that the Flames are going to have,” he said. “People like Coleman, people like Weegar, but there are other players around them.

“Conroy has shown he’s not afraid to be patient. And if you look at some of the deals he’s made to get younger, when he has had some leverage to wait, he’s done a pretty good job using that.”

Lomberg doesn’t want to be traded.

“They're well aware how much I love it,” said the effervescent winger who rivals Enmax in energy production.

“I'm tremendously proud to wear this sweater and be a part of this organization, and hopefully it stays that way.”
Quote:
For Lomberg, this isn’t just a stop along the way. This is where he wants to spend the rest of his career, and the rest of his life.

“I would love to, yeah,” said Lomberg, regularly spotted at rinks around town. “We've already talked about it. The first day we moved here, my wife was like, ‘Oh, I can see us living here after we're done.’

“Hopefully we don't have to go somewhere else, then come back.”

He also added: “It is what it is. So we're gonna enjoy our time here as much as we can.”
Quote:
However, the club isn’t in the business of sentiment right now.

Unless something changes – and Lomberg says there have been no extension talks – he may very well be on his way out. A late‑round pick from a contender, a handshake, a ‘thank‑you,’ a promise that the door is open in July.

And maybe it is. Maybe he does come back as a free agent. Maybe he even retires here like he hopes.

Or maybe it remains status quo, as a buyer’s market isn’t demanding a player of his ilk.

But for now, the likelihood is the Flames are thinking long‑term, even if it means parting with a guy who wants nothing more than to stay.

Keep Lombo. His attitude and presence in the room with the next group of kids is worth more than a magic beans draft pick

Trade him and re-sign him in free agency would be an ideal scenario.

Lombo isn’t about to fetch anything crazy, just keep em.

5th Round Pick --> Ethan Wyttenbach.

Trade him, re-sign in the Summer if he wants to return and it makes sense.

Flames need bullets.

Pffft, if there's one thing the Flames are 100 percent all about ALL of the time is sentimentality.

And if they trade a guy that absolutely wants to be here and publically declaring so despite him being a 4th line plug type, that's the most hypocritical thing this organization could do. Lomberg can rot in the press box if you want to make room for kids, but he wants to be here. Remember when they said they want people who want to be here?? Yeah..

Can’t really think of a time under the current management where the Flames have been sentimental at all. Must be from a bygone era. Trading 8 veterans for picks and prospects does not strike me as sentimental.

I can see both sides of the Lomberg issue- none of us want to see him go elsewhere. Still, it shouldn’t be a big deal to him or to us if he is traded with the guarantee of being re-signed this offseason. It’s only a few months, and gives us another bullet in the chamber.

This draft will be a disaster if we cant recoup that 7 th rounder.

Realistically what would a draft pick return be for lombo? Could you get anymore than a 5 th?

I'm always very skeptical of the "trade him with a handshake and re-sign in the summer" sentiment. I guess with Lombo there's maybe a higher likelihood of that actually shaking out for once, but I still very much doubt it. All that said, I'd keep him for the vibes - he likely provides outsized locker room value for what we're paying him and the minutes he commands.

Don't get me wrong, I like 4th round picks too, but with losing guys like Ras and Coleman - and potentially Naz or even Weegs - I think he's an easy keep for what he brings at the cost he brings it.

If somebody calls and makes an offer for Lomberg, there’s certainly no harm in listening. But something tells me Conroy is a little too busy with other things to take a job as a door-to-door Lomberg salesman.

Pat Steinberg said on FlamesTalk, he believes more than 1.5 trades but less than 2.5 trades will happen before the deadline, so 2.

Nah. It’ll be 1.7.

People will be surprised coming from me, but I would keep Lomberg. He is the type of player you want in the room and he fights.

And it isn't worth giving that up for a late round pick.

What if the pick is 5th round? Knowing he is a UFA in the summer...

I say 5th, not 4th because i don't see anyone giving up a 4th. 4th would be a no brainer to me though.

My friend was just in the dressing room (dm me for source if need be) Kadri was telling some team mates he likely won't be playing next game and will be sitting out.
