I'd like to see Hanley, Pachal, Pospisil, Coleman, Lomberg and Kadri all moved but I know that's extreme and unlikely to happen - fantasy hockey for sure. Pospisil because I think he's a time bomb, give him a playoff run or two before his career ends and get an asset back.
If those players were moved out bring in a bigger defensive LHD to play with Parekh and I love the remaining d corps for a rebuilding team, perfect mix of youth with some experience and some older guys who you can move for value down the line. You keep Weegar and Whitecloud so the bottom doesn't fall out. If you can't find a LHD in a trade you like, maybe try Cicek down the stretch, he's played in the NHL and is fine as a placeholder on the 3rd pair, he's like a left shot Pachal with a bit more toughness and he won't watch people push Parekh around, maybe he makes the spot his own.
Am sure there will be bodies coming back, but up front and what we have Stromgren takes Coleman's spot down the stretch, I think Bill has earned a longer look with the way he's played this season. Not really fussed about who takes Lomberg's spot, would rather we had a prospect or fighter for that slot but we don't so Hunt would be fine just as a warm body. Beecher takes the 4th line center spot similar to what our lines looked like before Pospisil came back then you do absolutely need to bring back a passable center in a deal to play down the middle with Frost/Backlund/Beecher. Super ugly up front but that's the reality of where we are at as far as forward talent that is close to the NHL. Might even be able to attract a good NCAA UFA or 4th year NCAAer not happy with the opportunity with the team he's been drafted by offering ice time down the stretch.
My actual guess as to who goes would be Coleman, Hanley and a coin flip on Kadri though. Feels like GMs are really hesitant to make trades these days and its getting harder and harder. I would be surprised if anyone offers enough to make moving Lomberg or Pachal worthwhile though hope to be wrong.

If you define "future considerations" (ie a bag of pucks) as "a market", I agree. Otherwise...I just don't see it. That is why players get waived and don't get picked up (for free)...there is NO market for them.

I was really hoping for a Coleman trade to get it out of the way before tomorrow's game. Then Conroy can focus on Kadri, 1 of Weegar/Whitecloud, Pachal, Hanley, maybe Lomberg.

This is just my opinion, but I do think we should do everything we can to trade him. He is not getting any younger, and trading him would help the tank a lot.
It really is a win-win situation. Kadri goes to a contender and we can cheer for him. And we get some future assets and it improves our draft pick for the next couple years.

Dallas activated Lian Bischel from LTIR today. Perhaps, we will see a trade between Calgary and Dallas now that he has been activated.

Hey! This isn't a 'whicha whatcha wonka' thread, this is an unhinged trade thread. Pull your #### together! You can't just say 'George Pamplemousses'. It's George Pamplemousses for what! for where! for who! Am I the only one here on crazy pills?
Pachal to Detroit for a 2026 5th
Coleman to Utah for Rangers 2026 2nd and Gabe Smith
Kadri to LA for Columbus 2nd, Kristian Epperson and Alex Turcotte
Popisil to Tampa for Nico Huutanen and a 2026 2nd
Those are the four guys that I see moving. One roster player coming in (Turcotte), three rough and tumble players with upside to second line level, three 2nds and a 5th. Not an overwhelming return, but I think realistic.

There are loads of players each year whose contract expires without getting traded, because, until they've seen where they stand for the next year, other teams just wait...because these types of players are available for free after July 1.

Thanks for the snark. Guess what? It’s called asset management for a reason. UFAs have declining value as their contract expires. No team needs to see where they stand for next year because there isn’t a next season for UFAs on their old contract. Of course they are “free” in the summer but how does that help the acquiring team in this season’s playoffs? I guess signing them in the summer shows that they do have value.
All players are assets. If there are no takers for a player, you keep them, waive them, or see if there’s a future consideration deal out there.
So no…”nothing happens” is simply inaccurate. Putting it in all caps doesn’t change that. This thread alone shows that there are floor limits for what some people would accept for players.
The point is that pure asset management means that assets are managed for the highest value. Sometimes the greatest value is keeping them. Sometimes it’s waiving them to the minors.
UFAs have zero value at the end of their contracted season. There is no value nor obligation for the seller nor acquiring team. I’m advocating for any return greater than zero. They walk no matter what when the contract ends. May as well get something at the trade deadline, or some other value.
I’ll add one wrinkle here: there will be a salary cap in the playoffs going forward. Does that increase or decrease the trade market for cheap players on expiring contracts?

So…waiving a player has…”value”? How so, except to ownership (less $$ outflow if claimed). If no one wants the player, like it or not, he has no value in the moment. Might later…might not. Nothing happens.
Hmm…I have an old (and good) camper I haven’t been able to sell…will you buy that?

Appears the Oilers are having a hard time moving Mangiapane. If I were the Flames I would take Mangiapane and the Oilers 2027 1st for Hanley or Pachal.

I still don’t think they trade him if the return is mediocre. I’m still hoping him and Coleman are gone soon

While any opportunity to screw the coilers has to be considered man the last thing we need is a bottom six lw.

Might have already been covered but couple tidbits the Flames don’t want to retain on Kadri. That slides me back to not expecting a deal for now if actually true

Good.
That is way too long and way too much money for probably a minimal extra return.
Would not blame them for that.

I’m sure the Flames don’t want to retain on Kadri until they know what the Coleman deal looks like. If they need their last retention slot to make that happen, they can’t retain on Kadri till summer.
I suspect it’s more about that than the actual money.
