Big win today. Takes the sting off the previous game, for sure.

As for Scherzer, I guess as a Yesavage mentor, sure.
But last year it was Bassit bringing him in, and it was a good peice to the clubhouse mix. Clubhouse is a lot different now, and most of the roster has now gone through that playoff grind and emotions and experience on their own.

It seemed like a one and done thing all along for all involved, like (in one sense) David Price.

If you bring him back, yes where does he fit. If he has a meaningful role it means someone is hurt or really struggling because while Max has some gas in the tank, it’s not a lot.

I think the Beiber thing is a bit worse than most are letting on, but besides just pitching, if bringing back Max is just trying to recreate some vibes from the special year last year where it all just clicked, it would seem a bit forced.

Lol. I only caught the first couple of innings, but having the Jays starters beat a mostly minor leqgue Phillies club is fine. I though Shipman was pretty good doing colour.

I'm glad baseball is back. Was interesting to see Macko as well - hopefully he pitches well in the WBC. I'd love to see Canada make it out of the group stage.

ABS is going to embarrass a lot of umpires. 3 calls in the first few innings of Red Sox and Pirates today, all pretty obvious wrong calls.

Have to say I am really pulling for Eloy Jimenez to make the club, if he can regain some of what he was he could be an X factor for the Jays.

Yankees had 6 calls overturned yesterday (out of 8 attempts) in their game vs the jays. Including 2 in a single at-bat, one of which was on a full count (so turned a K into a BB).

I sort of feel bad for that unp to be honest - it was his first spring training game ever, minor league ump.

I'm sure it's a coincidence Angel Hernandez left before this came in though.

Eloy Jimenez is going to force the Jays to make some tough decisions if he keeps it up. He's apparently raising a few eyebrows so far.

What an unexpectedly great problem to have. If he can keep it up, this could be like a Jose Bautista type of reclamation. Obviously that's wishful thinking and still highly unlikely, but its a free bullet

Yeah no kidding. I was also not there and cheering for them. Can I get a ring?

Very odd from Manoah. Though it’s been clear from the second he mocked the Yankees they he’s got a bit of a complex.

My guess is it gets twisted by him at some point when’s he inevitably asked again, as far as he provided advice to some players on the roster or pitching staff (maybe in Buffalo, maybe Yesavage?) that he thought they took to heart and takes credit for.

So weird. If he had said "I grew up with Vlad and Bo. I feel like, even though I wasn't part of the team, I was with them in the World Series", I'd totally understand but this was taking credit for something that he had nothing to do with.

8 is too many to have on the roster at once. Even if you assume Ponce and Lauer pitch out of the pen that leaves you with a 6 man rotation. I suppose you figure one guy is unavailable at any given time.

From what Schneider said recently, it sounds like Yesavage's workload will be managed because of the short offseason + it being his first full year in the bigs.

Also wouldn't surprise me if Lauer got traded at some point, he wants to be a starter and didn't sound happy when he mentioned how being a reliever late in the season affected his arbitration hearing. I think the Jays will obviously try to move Berrios first though

They have some time to see how it all plays out though, with Scherzer and Bieber having delayed starts to their season

I'm in the same boat. I like him, but in hindsight the opting into the contract seems a bit fishy now. The silence around his status certainly indicates he'll be gone for awhile.
