I'm strongly against fighting and I hate having a goon take up a roster spot.
I also question how much of a deterrent having a guy like him really is.
But if they are going to add that type of player, at minimum, I would hate to give up a 3rd to get him.

Agreed. You can sign these guys for free in FA. You don't need to spent draft capital to acquire them.

I think realistically for Kadri, we should expect a Top prospect + 2nd or a 1st and a B prospect.
I don't see any trade where he brings back a younger NHL ready center at this point.

I would also guess, a contract is likely coming back.

No chance this deal can be made without retention,
Top teams don't have the cap space
Just my opinion

If they move Coleman and Kadri, one deal will have retention and the other will have a salary coming back.
Can't see that not being the case.

I’m against fighting too, but I’m not in favour of unilateral disarmament.
On a team with actual aspirations, I agree he’s a waste of a roster spot.
On a team with a bunch of kids who can’t fight for themselves, a Rempe or similar level goon is necessary.
Besides, he can help just as much by running someone through the boards as he can fighting.

Matt Rempe is f'n terrible, he's not even that good of a fighter either. He's not going to protect anyone. You're going to see him get in fights, be a clown, hurt other people and do needless stuff. I'm not against fighting (meh) or toughness in our game but this guy ain't it. Also why trade a 3rd, he's basically waiver material

I’m not sure on how good/bad Rempe is. Have had limited viewings of his play. His stats show he is a black hole in terms of offence but that is pretty typical of 4th line fighters. He has 11 points in 85 career games but is a +4. For a player listed as a center, his career faceoff percentage is really bad (30%).
Seems like he would really be a niche player. Hits hard and will fight anyone… but shouldn’t expect much else from him. Still would be ok with getting a player like him though as a player that can come into the lineup against teams with some dirty players.

We won’t need any of those tough guys if we win the lottery.

Do other young emerging teams have a guy like this? San Jose? Montreal? Utah?

San Jose has Reaves
Montreal had Xhekaj (Flames have been rumored to like him and I'd have no issue if they acquire him).
Utah has Jack McBain who fights a fair bit.
Personally I'd prefer guys who are big and physical who can also play the game of hockey and not just a 4th line black hole. So more a guy like McBain or Xhekaj than a guy like Reaves or Rempe.

Trading a 3rd for Rempe would be peak mid teens Flames. What a goofy idea.

I forgot Reeves was in SJ.
I think a guy like Xhekaj works because he can actually play.
So yeah we are on the same page. I'm ok with a physical guy who can play a regular shift. Not guys like Reaves and Rempe.

Xhekaj (both Arber & Florian) bring that x-factor of fighting and bottom line skill.
Kadri (retained) + Hanley for a 1st and both Xhekaj brothers is something I would do.
