If the replacement had a reasonable poker face and some discretion in operating nefariously on trump's behalf then we'd be more in the dark and unable to track all the #### as we can with that dingus Patel.

It's american taxpayer dollars anyways, if they want to fund Patel's jetcapades partying, that's on them.
Well no. Trump only chooses the most inept and deplorable for the top jobs. I just want to see the cross-eyed bitch in jail.

The thing that bugs me so much is the effort. Despite staring at a 3-on-1, McDavid takes one stride from this point. One! Surprised? No, not at all, because that's the player we all know he is. But it's overtime of the freaking Gold Medal game and you just published an article about how badly you want to win. Pump your legs, man. And stick at waist height too instead of on the ice and where does Werenski's pass go? Right under where his blade should be. Get a stick in the lane at least if you aren't going to skate (preferably do both). Lazy hockey. Imagine Bergeron, or Crosby, or Toews gliding straight-legged, stick at waist, here?

Yes, there are thousands of small plays in any given game and most end up irrelevant, so I understand it's hard to dwell on just one...but tough one to swallow when it's exclusively effort and commitment. Did Makar jump into an ill-advised pinch? Yes. Did MacKinnon get bullied by Werenski? Yes. Tough way to lose when your three big guns all err at once, especially when the primary cause is effort at the start of a period.

Have you seen what Makar did? Or the really poor puck battle from Mackinnon?

I get we're a Flames board, but McDavid wasn't even the worst of the 3 on the play, so singling him out I find odd.

Him trying to go 3 on 1 TWICE Led to this.

I think I was successfully gaslighting myself into being okay with the loss because the Gaudreau tribute was genuinely touching. Seeing his family smile was very nice to see.

But then within minutes the Team USA players showed us who they really are. Who parties with the FBI Director? Even in a normal political climate that is so frickin weird man, that is objectively bizarre behaviour. I am working contractually in the US (ending in 6 months) and was texting with some colleagues about the game. None of them are hockey fans but they all had their joy turned off by seeing this freakish locker room behaviour by team USA. What a great way to soil what should be a unifying achievement. Idiots.

Then watching them cackle at Trump roasting the women’s team, absolutely disgusting. I know they’re riding an adrenaline high, but it really just confirmed the suspicion that the collective IQ of a hockey locker room is lower than your average grade 9 class. The Hughes brothers mom is an ex player and still works with the womens team, are they that dumb not to realize how horrible that Trump jab was?

Suddenly, Dougie Hamilton’s desire to visit museums instead of hanging out with these types of guys looks less like being a loner and more like a survival tactic for an intellectual

I have moved past it. It sucks but the reality is that 9/10 McKinnon scores that goal. 9/10 Toews scores that goal. No bounces went their way. They doubled them in shots. They got goalied. Which is fine. Ignore the losers on Social Media.

9/10 times that game is won by Team Canada if played again.

I generally agree, though there was that double post by the US.

No one could watch that game though, and come away thinking the US was better.

Where is Makar? Usually say that in parking lots but you can say it in those pictures too.

Which is what annoys me about all the 'Is America catching up to Canada in hockey?' conversations around the media leading up to the game, and now especially after.

This hasn't been new for ~20 years, but the media is now all of a sudden panicking because of the result of a game where Canada dominated.

The margins in 2010 were also razor thin, ended in OT. But we're a hockey powerhouse then and should panic now?

This game was as good as Canada has looked vs the U.S. in years.

I should caveat this is regarding the men's game. The women's game I think serious reflecting should and probably will be done about how to return as a hockey superpower.

Some of the worst takes I’VE seen on CP were the pre game “this isn’t just a game its all about politics and good vs evil”. I still can’t put myself in a mindset that childish and angry, enough to insult people for having beliefs different than my own if I try really hard.

Hey! I can play too!!

Some beliefs are just downright bad though and don't deserve respect because there's nothing respectable about it.

Different viewpoints are fine if there's an iota of critical thought or logic behind them.

Being brainwashed by a neo-nazi and pro-billionaire movement disguised as "america-first!" and actively contradicting many beliefs you upheld a few years ago because you're unable to find it in yourself to fundamentally disagree with anything your cult leader says because you've fully simped isn't a position worthy of the "respect differences" argument.

The most recent IIHF world rankings from May had both the American women and men as the #1 ranked country in the world. Like you said, they have been caught up for a long time. These things ebb and flow, but the U.S. not even close to being an underdog and have no more catching up to do.
