We should all be concerned that these AI tools can re-create our likenesses in believable ways, and how that can be used by bad actors. That isn't a celebrity issue, that's an issue we should all be worried about. Of course many of us have probably signed away our biometric rights in various T&Cs that we didn't look at.
Perhaps in this case it is an attempt at humor, but it's being used for a lot of other things that are far less innocent.
And that's not to speak of the energy consumption that was needlessly used to create this slop.
I'm not trying to be argumentative with you. I'm trying to outline the real concerns with the stuff. Of which there are many.

I understand what you have said but that's all obvious. There's no way you can see that content and say yup " that's genuine " or that's such a good deep fake.
It's so over the top that that's clearly a joke.

Maybe he's just not a winner, or maybe being developed by the Oilers ruined his chance to become truly one of the greatest. We won't know until he either wins something with the Oilers or on another team.

I hate to break this to you but the video would be just as dumb and unfunny if it were an actor playing McDavid. It sounds like it was written by a hockey bro with the intelligence of a 10 year old (“call me Connor McDookie!!! OMGLOL!”) and there’s really only an awkward segment of the adult population that overlooks that stuff because they’re just blown away it’s AI (even if it’s a huge waste of energy to produce terrible slop).
It’s just dumb and bad. It’s worse because it’s AI not because it took someone’s job, but because nobody would waste their own energy producing that for real, but some joker thought they’d wate other people’s energy making a computer do it.

So basically the comedy sector is bad. Family guy and south park especially or opposite solars or Rick and Morty
Also most hockey bros only have a 10 year old mentally. That's why the nicknames are so simple.
Most comedy or even live shows are stupid, some of the most popular reruns are 2 broke girls, how I met your mother, Friends , Malcolm in the middle etc etc...
Like Matt rife is one of the most popular comedians .
Also what's wrong with dookie as a Joke ? Greenday's best album

It's totally ok for an attempt at humor to have completely whiffed like this one did. We've all been there. It being an AI attempt at humor just makes it worse though.

Lots of younger hockey fans in this country actually think he’s better than Gretzky, Lemieux, Crosby because they have been told over and over by the propaganda machine that he’s that good. The reality is that he’s accomplished some great individual achievements but for all the hype and statistics, he’s never been able to win anything.
|
As a hockey skillset, as a force on the ice, he’s the best to play the game. I’ve never seen anyone better.
With that said, defending and overall skating ability has come such a long way, he can be defended with layers and team structure. There are simply too many good skaters now where he’s not going to go end to end 1 on 5. With great teams and coaching in all or nothing games, he’s not going to have the same room to operate.
What we haven't seen yet in his career is a more patient approach in these games. His will to win seems like it’s off the charts, but it also looks like it gets the better of him or that he refuses to gear down to preserve himself or jump on a counter punch.
He is so good that the teams he plays on almost become too reliant on him. When that is defended, it almost paralyzes the team because they don’t have a second gear or another attack they can rely on.

This.
That was what I was saying when I said SNL has comedy writers. I wasn't complaining about AI "taking their jobs". I was suggesting that they are actually, usually, good at those jobs, and as a result, write comedic skits that are actually funny - the humour isn't derived from the fact that there is an actor who isn't Donald Trump playing Donald Trump, it's derived from what that actor says.
Nobody who makes these AI videos ever puts anything in them that is actually funny, and as a result the only humour that can be derived is "LOL he didn't actually say that but I'm making him look like he did! Isn't that amazing and hilarious!"
No. It's not. That's not funny, except to the types of people BigThief described in this post.

Yep, that is exactly the sort of person I would imagine laughs at this junk.

Maybe. But you are looking at just this example. The same tech can be used to create deep fakes that are not obvious.

exactly this, a few weeks ago Grok was generating naked photos of children. AI has it's uses, but by and large we just see it generating tons of slop.

I'm with the vast majority that it shouldn't be straight to 3-on-3 for a medal game.
My buddies and I discussed starting with 10 minutes of 5-on-5, 10 minutes of 4-on-4, and then unlimited 3-on-3.

Here’s a suggestion: get over yourself. Everyone - yes, everyone - is special in some manner. I’m sick of hearing how we all need to accommodate neuro…whatever’s because they can’t cope in the world without it. Learn to spell and write actual English. Form whole thoughts, not garbage. Yes, you can…and stop telling others to make allowances for you.
Just a thought. I had a “special” mind LONG before it got adorned with fancy names and excuses.

Of course. But anything you see on the web you need to research. I've seen tons of more convincing deep fakes but a quick Google search shows it's bs. Things you see need to be taken as a grain of salt like your nosey next store neighbor who just runs their mouth. Usually a boomer one .

One of the funniest SNL skits I saw was Matt Damon doing Brett Kavanaugh at his confirmation hearings. The funny part was that he used Kavanaugh's actual verbatim words - no changes.
