Sanheim Theodore and Parayko all objectively below what we had available as replacements and therefore 4 or under

Mcdavid was a 10 until he soiled himself today and cost Canada the gold. I would bump him down to a 6 just based on the importance of today's game.

Travis Sanheim
Cale Makar

Macklin Celebrini
Thomas Harley
Seth Jarvis
Nathan MacKinnon
Sidney Crosby
Mitch Marner
Connor McDavid
Shea Theodore

In:
Connor Bedard
Beckett Sennecke
Wyatt Johnston
Alexis Lafreniere
Dylan Guenther
Brandt Clarke
Owen Power
Mason McTavish
Matthew Schaefer
Noah Dobson
Quinton Byfield
Sam Montembeault

Out:
Devon Toews
Sam Bennett
Sam Reinhart
Bo Horvat
Brandon Hagel
Tom Wilson
Josh Morrissey
Colton Parayko
Mark Stone
Brad Marchand
Drew Doughty
Jordan Binnington

Note: I think/hope Zane Parekh will be ready for the 2030 Olympics but even that would be a stretch since team Canada really struggles to bring young players but especially young defencemen. He would have to develop really quickly into a top pairing defenceman to have a shot at a roster spot on team Canada in two years to play in the World Cup.
Crosby at 42 I wonder if he's still playing and if he is what level he's playing at. If anyone can keep it up it's him though.

Odds of Parekh making the team are under 1%. There's a reason Bouchard is at home and he's the highest scoring dman in the league at the break.

Maybe McKenna surprises if he steps into the league similar to how Celebrini has. Johnston, Schaefer, Bedard hopefully all take their play to another level

It's definitely a silver lining that this outcome bolstered Crosby's legacy of greatness while also bolstering McDavid's legacy of letdown.

I don't think we lose today with 87 out there.

10 for McDavid is a joke. Your scoring scale literally says it's measuring performance relative to excpectations, and you gave him a 10? 0 goals, 1 5v5 assist, 3 PP assists in 3 medal-round games is a 10 in your book?

Bennett, a last-second injruy replacement who only played in two medal-round games gets a 3? He scored the same amount of goals as McDavid did and got one less 5v5 point, but was instrumental in helping us tie the game late in the 3rd vs Czechia.

Suzuki a 4? He was one of our best players.

Marner an 8, I agree with. Harley I'd give a 7, but 6 is fine. Celebrini a 10 is obvious. Stone an 8 though? I'd put him at a 6. I'd have Bennett at a 5 at least. Would have been nice to see him get one, but worked his way from healthy scratch at the start of the medals to 2nd line minutes in the final game. Bennett Marchand Wilson was easily our second-best line. I agree with Marshy's low rating. The guy's usually a killer, but was fumbling the puck left and right today. Marner is very good, but needs to play with capitalizers. Would have loved to see him paired with Celebrini. Reinhart scored more goals than McDavid in the medals, despite only being used as a 13th forward (wow, such coaching!), and you gave him a 4 lol.

I guess overall, most of your rankings aren't super terrible. In spite of my rant, Bennett isn't that far off what I would give him... but 10 for McJesus though is just crazy. He's supposed to be the best player on the planet, but 0 goals and 1 5v5 point in the three biggest games of the Olympics gets him a 10?

It still really bothers me that they were calling McDavid "the captain" today during the game. "Here comes the captain, with the puck on his stick..."

Get lost. This team and country has only one Captain.

Did Canada play a game in which Binnington was the best goalie? Not saying he was the problem today, just asking the question.

He was fine but Canada lacks an elite goalie.
His best is below the other's bests.

Who do we have for potential future goalie stars?

We can quibble about individual performances, but in no way was Suzuki one of our best. Horvat was more impactful and he may not get an invite back.

Suzuki was a tale of two halves. On the wing he was not good at all.

After Sid went down and they moved him to center he was excellent.

Agreed he was much better at centre, but still not great overall imo.

This question is a red herring. The other goalie HAD to be elite because Canada absolutely dominated the semi and the final.

He was better at center than McKinnon and at the very least gave Cooper the option to run a line of Marner and Stone.

His utility gets him an invite next Olympics, all else equal.

it blows my mind that Scheifele was left at home during one of his best seasons.

He was never going to be the best goalie unless the other guys choked. He was on a much better team.

They didn’t .

Who do you leave off?

Suggesting the outcome would have been different with him on the team is pure fantasy.

Scheifele over Bennett. Bennett almost cost the team the semi finals and finals with his penalties. That 4 minute penalty just completely killed all their momentum late in the game when they were playing so well.

Can you go ahead and show me where I said that or suggested that?
