Right. Stanley Cup is made up too.
But because it's been played more than one time, there is a bit of hstory and legitimacy to it. Like the Olympics, except added weight because you get a shot once every 4 years, or longer
They played a great game. They deserved to win. They didn't

My read is he was hoping it would turn back over and he'd have a breakaway

He played 3 on 3 like it was a regular season overtime.
It’s also his second shift 3 on 3 in a minute and a half. Some may read it as lazy. A lot of that is energy. Part of what you live and die with on 3-on-3.

That to me is an indictment of our second wave of depth. This Canadian team had maybe the best top end I’ve ever seen, but the depth fell off a cliff.

Exactly. You get space by doing the thing they're not expecting in 3v3. You can do the "split the D 1v3" thing when no one thinks that's what you're about to do. When McDavid does it from his own end it's pretty obvious what's happening. At that point he needs to back the defensemen off the blue line, hit the brakes, and drop it to a late guy with space to take a shot from the high slot. You especially don't do it twice in a row.

I take the point but 4 Nations was still best on best, and actually had 5 on 5 OT.

If I tell myself that the US team won this for #13 and his family, it seems to take the sting out of it a bit. There were some hockey gods at work in this one.

Great game! US didn’t deserve the win. No point blaming the 3 M’s on the ice in OT as without them we’re out several games ago. I loved the Johnny hockey stuff.

In fairness, he was doing this all tournament but the middle shooters just kept flinging it back out to a bad angle instead.

If the US wasn't run by the worst humans alive this loss would be somewhat palatable as a dedication to Johnny.

At least 95% of the building was rooting for canada which shows how deeply unpopular the states are right now.

The two late guys here being Makar and MacKinnon, each with ~30 feet of separation…

My political views are pretty strong, but I’ve enjoyed the absence of that crap in this thread.
