Yeah... An OT win against a team missing their best defenceman (Hughes) and one of their best forwards (Tkachuk), after losing to them by two goals in the preliminaries.

Yeah, and now Canada is missing Crosby and Morrissey. Not sure we can make any excuses.
I actually thought that period went great for Canada until the penalty call. They were doing some frustrating things in the offensive zone on occasion but they were spending a lot of time there. Other than Boldy going 1 on 2, the USA didn't have much at even strength until the last minute there.

not a bad game so far. Too much overpassing by both teams.

The problem with these game 7 type games is the clock. Need to capitalize on opportunities.

Good assessment, I agree. I’ll add that our defensemen need to tighten up as well.

I feel like Wilson’s hit on Larkin produced an emotional spike and all of a sudden everyone is forcing hits, which kind of drags players out of the system and potentially their strengths. That said, I love when Canada has a chance to manhandle Americans.

Theodore/Toews not doing any favours but MacKinnon and McDavid put so much pressure on their D. MacKinnon bails on board battle leading to first goal and again no back pressure leads to hooking penalty.
Good thing is they’ll outscore their deficiencies in 9/10 games. They’ll get on the board in the second and win your minutes thereafter.

I think Canada will be better in the second period now that they've burned off some cortisol. My worry at this point is that Hellebuyck shuts the door and the USA drop into counter-punching, which I think Canada would struggle to crack. If the game remains free-flowing, then at some point Canada's due for an individual effort or two from the big guns.
Also, funny to think it would only take two USA families getting norovirus for their team to turn into Switzerland.
