Easy to take accountability for something that obviously isn't your fault. It would ring more true if he apologized for being a giant turd sandwich for 4 years wasting a lot of time with stunts that might have otherwise been directed to stuff like this (not that it would have actually changed THIS)

It's clearly better than Gondek immediately blaming the province and federal government for city responsibilities before even knowing what caused the break.
We get it, you really don't like Farkas. But it's weird to go after him for overcommunication and even taking high road to hold himself accountable and not blame predecessors for the current hot mess as excuses.
And he's spoken at length about the mistakes as councilor and how he would approach it completely differently being humbled. So far he's been communicative as mayor and I'd rather gladly have him be obnoxious at times.

I'd rather the money go to winter tire rebates personally, I can't stand how rusty everything gets because of it, and environmentally I'm sure it's meaning a lot of cars hit the scrap yard years earlier, plus a bunch of #### in our rivers.

Thought that beet juice was tried, anyone know how that turned out

A Calgary city councillor is calling for increased accountability after an inquiry revealed $3.6 billion of the city’s water infrastructure budget — more than one-third — went unspent between 2003 and 2024.
|
Quote:
|
The report showed that in that 22-year time frame, there were only two years in which the city’s water utility spent within five per cent of its total budget — on average, 36 per cent of the budget was unspent each year.
|
So we could have been doing a lot more for our water infrastructure but didn't, even though the money was allotted to it.
By underspending their budget nearly every year, is this how city water utility managers get themselves nice year end bonuses?

The pipe is in worse condition than thought (lol), shutdown on March 9th for more reinforcement work, water restrictions will be in place. 4 week shutdown window.

I guess it makes sense to do it now rather than wait and risk it breaking during the summer when water demand is much higher.
It would be nice if people clued into the fact that voting for politicians who promise to say "no" to everything isn't the best idea.

Someone said "no" to replacing this line? When was that?

More water restrictions. Rinse and repeat...well...don't rinse, that uses water.

The neat thing about general statements is they don't need to directly relate to the disaster in question to still be valid and true.

Yeah, and they're also irrelevant and only done to persuade weak willed low-information people into a certain opinion.

Wasn't this identified as a potential issue as far back as 2004?

Yes, if you ignore the unavoidable reality that electing people who say no to everything will eventually lead to consequences of things not being done that should be. Nice try on the shade toss though. Ya missed.

Everyone has their theory who to blame. Ignore that and fix the issues. I work a thrifty chinese company but integrity spends are a pretty easy sell but most places just defer until a nightmare ensues to get that under budget atta boy. You are such an amazing steward of our assets Krys.

Just got our Enmax bill that covered most of the previous water restriction, January 4th to February 2nd. We used 7m3 of water in that timeframe. Don't know how we could get that any lower.
