Celebrity Jeopardy with Burt Reynolds (and Turd Ferguson) is a great example of something that improved over time and where the Burt/Turd character developed to be better.

Yeah that's one I thought of as well, but also really the only example I can think of. Debbie Downer maybe? But her first may still be the best I can't remember.

Honestly not sure I agree about that, but can't remember the first time. Also it's not that future versions are bad or unfunny, but the first is still the best.

I also think it was more about the guest star characters vs repeated cast characters, which is always kind of a staple, especially weekend update guests.

That’s just a series of impressions though. It’s not the same guest host coming back with the same character (other than Norm and that’s just beautiful Norm magic).

Timberlake has some good repeat characters with the Lonely Island, Barry Gibb, soup ville etc. So does Gosling with Papyrus. I just like to see new tries versus a show full of repeat skits is all.

Those are all cast members (not sure if Norm was in the cast when they first did it or after, but I will concede Turd Ferguson either way). All I'm saying is if we get to Papyrus 4 and Beavis/Butthead 3 they probably wont be hitting as hard as #1. What was mostly funny about Beavis and Butthead was the breaking of Heidi (and then everyone) because she was surprised by the make-up . You can't just repeat that. I don't think another Papyrus would work.

Yeah, I also thought as it went on it got more "inside" and contrived around trying to make him break, and that his breaks got a little forced by the end. Your reference I think is actually the perfect example of him not actually laughing, at a joke that is only funny to celebrity New Yorkers.

I honestly think the abduction skit was played out a while ago. Are you ever going to beat "coot coot and prune shoot"?

I'd say Mulaney's Broadway montages have been solid. Nothing will top the first Les Miz Lobster, but the subsequent ones are all sing-able.

I can't go into a 7-11 without singing "put all the pills in a bag and call them Tiger Sex Pills"

Watched some Stefon on youtube last night out of curiosity.

His first appearance was actually in a 2008 sketch where he was Ben Afflecks brother, pitching a movie. Not that funny.

His first appearance as city correspondent on Update was not until 2010. The formula was set from the start, but over time they added more surprise jokes for Hader, and a budding romance with Seth.
